What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
Overall, I would like to strengthen the sense of community between disabled students through:
- accessible information (eg. a central place to find all you need)
- increased awareness + advertising (eg. clearer, informative posters in more places)
- efficient communication channels (eg. maintaining a regular social media presence)
It can be hard but beneficial as a disabled student to meet others who have shared experiences. Through distribution of media and communications (with eye-catching posters and interactive social media presence) I hope I can make this easier.
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
As an art student I have lots of experience in digital and print design work, such as creating and distributing posters. I have also worked as as project manager for an exhibition, which involved online and print distribution of key information - including writing up information about the artworks, and running the Instagram and Facebook pages, and social media campaigns.
In my part-time work as an online tutor I am also constantly in liaison with parents, students, and schools, so I have gained a lot of experience in efficient and reliable communication with all types of people.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.
Whilst studying at UCL, I've been through a long journey of exploring my disability. This has involved - in both academic and personal work - better educating myself about disability in general (in particular, how it's so varied for everyone) but also within arts activism. I took an amazing module last year and learnt so much about the models of disability, and the issues of the education system within supporting disabled students and staff. With all of these experiences and knowledge about physical and mental disabilities, I'm passionate about trying to improve all students' experiences.
