Diya Doda

Hi, I’m Diya, a first-year Physics student. Women in STEM is a cause I’m particularly passionate about and has been a central part of my life over the past few years, having initiated and been involved in several projects supporting the cause.

As president of my school’s women in STEM club, I coordinated a Women in STEM Tech Talk series featuring biophysicists from CERN and AI experts from WIPO. This experience made me appreciate the value of having strong female inspirations in the industry and building connections within the community. Alongside this, I also organised workshops for younger students to inspire a love for science and developed a partnership with a local charity, raising over 2,500 CHF to support female medical students in Sierra Leone.

As Events Officer, I am eager to hear and learn from all of you and to help plan events that would build an even stronger sense of community. I also hope to plan activities that would build academic and professional skills and create connections. I have several ideas such as themed panels (for example, “Women in AI” or "Interdisciplinary Research”) and partnerships with external organisations to expand our outreach beyond UCL.

I am extremely excited for the opportunity to meet and work with other like-minded women. For me, Women in STEM has always been a safe space to connect with others and share ideas. But it is also an opportunity to make a difference both within the UCL community and beyond.

I want to be an Events Officer for Women in STEM because I’m committed to creating events that genuinely reflect the interests of our members. I want to organise social activities and opportunities that don’t just come from the committee’s ideas, but from the community itself. Events shaped by what you want to see and experience!!

My main focus will be on making the group chat more active, and creating a welcoming environment for people to share what they want to see and events they are interested in.

Whether it’s academic opportunities, or fun social gatherings, I want our events to be something the members are a part of making.

I want to bring STEM speakers that reflect the interests we all share, women who have been where we are today and know how to navigate us through our studies.

Above all, my aim is to deliver what you want to participate in, what makes you feel like a better-prepared professional.

Klara Kurucova

Hi everyone! My name is Klara, I’m a second-year Astrophysics student, and I’m running for Events Officer for the Women in STEM society.

In this role, I would be dedicated to making the society an accessible and welcoming place for everyone. I’m excited to organise a wide range of events — from informative panel discussions and guest lectures, to fun social activities that bring members together and foster an empowered community.

I thrive when I’m proactive and organised, and I would make sure that all our events reflect the interests and needs of our members. I can’t wait to bring people together through meaningful and engaging experiences.

Thank you for your support! <3

Why I'm applying

Members maketh the society.

I have enjoyed interacting with many wonderfully diverse, fun and capable women since I joined Women in STEM. I love the sense of community and I would like to contribute to it as an Events Officer. My aim is for Women in STEM society to be a place where you actively belong and a proactive space for growth and equity.

What I will do better

  • Have your say and tailor your experience as a member. I intend to give the chance to vote for events, so your time is well spent.
  • I want us to be efficient in providing more engaging events every time. I will be actively asking for and implementing feedback after events.
  • Many important workplace skills (like setting boundaries or being assertive) are never taught, only learned the hard way, especially for women. I want to offer professional skills-based workshops as a solution.

More About Me

I am Divyanshi and I'm a first year BSc Biological Sciences student. Currently, I am interested in science communication and genetics. I’m great at logistics and planning, with a creative side that emerges especially for party planning.

I’ve loved being a part of the Women in STEM community for the past few years and would love to contribute to it through being a part of the committee this year! As a 3rd year physics student, I know how difficult it can be to navigate male dominated spaces and societies like WiS are so important. I’m incredibly passionate about social mobility and would like to continue running a range of events that can be interesting and fun for the diverse and intelligent range of STEM women at UCL! I want people to leave our events feeling more confident and more connected than when they arrived. Most importantly, I care a lot about building community. I’d put real energy into making sure our events are welcoming, inclusive and something members can really look forward to!
