Hi everyone! I’m Alex, a first-year Mathematics student. I’m running for Welfare Officer because I want to make WinF a truly holistic community where every member feels they belong and not just a career platform.
As a Maths major, I bring a unique perspective. Finance can sometimes feel like an "econ-only" club, and I want to champion inclusivity for those from diverse backgrounds, including STEM majors. I know firsthand how it feels to navigate this space from a different discipline, and I’ll ensure everyone has a seat at the table.
My time as a Year Representative before joining UCL taught me how to be a reliable bridge between students and leadership. I’m used to reaching out via socials or in-person to catch the small issues before they become big ones. This role also sharpened my teamwork skills. I know how to collaborate with a committee to turn feedback into action. Plus, having organized faculty auctions and student breakfasts, I’m ready to jump in and help the team with event logistics whenever needed.
I also spent time as a Student Operator in a Digital Architecture Studio, which made me the go-to person for troubleshooting and support. I’m comfortable being the "first point of contact" and genuinely enjoy helping others navigate high-pressure environments. I want to bring that same approachable, problem-solving energy to WinF to ensure we stay a supportive, mentally healthy space for all.
I would love the opportunity to support you all this year, so please vote for me!
I am highly motivated to take on this leadership role in welfare in order to have a real impact, fostering an environment where mental health and professional excellence go hand-in-hand. Having been an active member of this society, I have observed firsthand the ambition of our members, where all individuals need to feel supported and empowered to navigate the high pressure of the financial industry.
My work day experience at Peel Hunt, focused on women in finance alongside my virtual simulation with Lloyds Banking Group has given me a clear understanding of the intense demands of financial careers where women often feel the need to constantly prove themselves. Prioritising well-being is not a weakness but a strategic strength. These experiences have reinforced the importance of building support systems early on, so that members feel prepared not only technically, but mentally.
As I am currently a student in the BSc Management Science, I am trained in quantitative decision-making and data-driven management. I can apply this analytical approach to assess the needs of our members through anonymous termly surveys, ensuring that our well-being initiatives are truly effective. Indeed, I am interested in exploring how digital resources can provide members with easily accessible well-being support such as a centralized well-being hub with curated internship timelines, stress-management resources, and peer-support pairings.
I'm standing for head of welfare because I'm committed to creating a supportive community where women in finance can thrive academically and personally. As a first-year student, I understand the unique challenges we face—balancing ambition with wellbeing, navigating male-dominated spaces, and building confidence in our abilities. Finance is extremely daunting to step into, and I hope I can be the bridge to make it a little easier for everyone to get involved.
Through mentoring peers in academic subjects, I've developed a genuine passion for supporting others through meaningful listening and constructive action. My experience delivering talks on wellbeing in school has reinforced the importance of creating safe, judgment-free spaces where people feel comfortable discussing real challenges: imposter syndrome, stress, and belonging.
I recognise that effective welfare goes beyond addressing crises—it means proactively fostering connection, resilience, and a sense of community among our members. As Head of Welfare I would prioritise establishing peer mentoring networks, and ensuring every member feels valued and heard. I am always down for a chat!!
I'm dedicated to making Women in Finance a space where we can pursue our ambitions while maintaining our wellbeing and supporting one another through every stage of our journey. My commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive environment makes me well-suited to this role.
