The best memories from university usually happen at society events, and as someone who has spent the last year as Cultural Rep, I understand the coordination needed to make our ideas actually work. I’m standing for Head of Events because I want to take the foundation our society has built and push it further, creating a calendar that is diverse and consistent so every member feels there is a place for them.
My experience in event leadership started as the co-founder and Vice Chair of my South Asian Society and Chair of the Psychology Society. I’ve managed the end-to-end planning of everything from high-turnout weekly sessions to guest speakers and cultural stalls. I’ve learned to handle the behind-the-scenes logistics so that at the event, everyone can simply enjoy the atmosphere.
If elected, I want to ensure that next year offers something for everyone, every single term, by introducing:
- Creative Cultural Showcases: I want to organise events that celebrate our heritage in style, such as a fashion show highlighting the evolution of Tamil clothing, from pre-colonial drapes to modern sari-corset fusions.
- High-Energy Competition & Connection: To keep the spirit high, I plan to introduce more competitive events, including Tamil-themed treasure hunts around UCL and collaborations with other societies and unis for larger-scale mixers.
- Diverse Socials: A mix of unique dance workshops (like Kuthu x Hip-Hop or Bharatanatyam x Ballet), girls' picnics and relaxed film nights.
Hey everyone, I’m Nivedhan, and I’m running to be your Tamil Society’s Head of Events! I have been regularly involved with our Tamil Society, going to our events and even performing at our premier clubbing event Jalsa. In terms of events, UCL Tamil Society is mainly known for hosting the biggest dinner and dance, Panithuli, which has always been a major success. However, as your Head of Events, I want to bring bigger, greater things to our Tamil Society. Not only does this mean uplifting Panithuli to the next level, but it also means creating an identity for our Tamil Society above and beyond: if you elect me, WE will create new, regular, meaningful, innovative events. Sports tournaments. Interactive gameshows. Society competitions. You name it! I know every one of you has a cunning idea of what event you would like, and I’ll make sure all your voices are collectively heard and your ideas are implemented. We promise to deliver this year, elevating our Tamil Society, and involving everyone!
I promise to make every event live and I will ensure that everyone gets involved. This year I felt the event weren’t great and I will do my very best to make sure they are live next year. I will take any comittee position as long as I have some impact on the events taking place.
Hi everyone, my name is Samyuktha and I am running for Head of Events!
Having been part of Tamil Society at UCL for two years now, I have gained an understanding for how Tamil Society events are run and the hard work and planning needed to make them happen and make sure everyone enjoys them. I have many plans for new ideas and events I want to introduce into Tamil Society to make sure there is something for everyone!
Some ideas I had were:
- Continuing Charity Week - it was a massive success this year, and next year I plan to build on it, adding more workshops and events
- TSOC Families - I want to increase the amount of events we have with the families so everyone gets a chance to get to know each other, particularly game show themed
- Making Panithuli equally enjoyable for people who drink AND people who don't - listening to everyone's feedback as well!
- Hosting more non-drinking events like Sip and Paint, trips to Wembley for good food and more beginner dance workshops
- Making our club nights bigger and better in the new year!
If you like my ideas, please vote for me!
