Lizzie Knowles

For me, SIHS is refuge from the currently divisive climate. A place to productively organise, self-reflect, resource, and strengthen resilience through village-building. It supports our responses to be more curious, empathetic, and intentional as we try to transfer these learnings into our commitments towards a more just and equitable society.

I would support SIHS welfare through initiatives that nurture a culture of:

  • Congruence (the alignment of internal values and emotions with external behaviour)
  • Inclusivity
  • Village-Building
  • Collective Flourishing

To cultivate this, I'd introduce:

  • A Feedback Loop, supported by a safe environment, to continuously develop and adapt our approach
  • Inclusive Socials, combining wellbeing with village-building & reflection. e.g. picnics, crafts, games
  • Resource pooling, a shared document for podcasts, articles, documentaries etc
  • Beyond SIHS, a focus on how we carry SIHS into our futures, through workshops and producing a reflective report on best practices developed during our time in SIHS as a resource for future members and our lives post-UCL

Using experience developing inclusive education policy and resources for York Uni, I would centre inclusivity and support SIHS events. From patient advocacy experience, I am committed to being a safe, dependable space for members. I understand fluctuating capacity, am familiar with various resources, and I promise to listen to you as experts of your experiences and educate myself accordingly to support you.
