Mahdi Ahmed

I want to become Vice President of the Pharmacology Society, because I want to bring people together around Pharmacology, in a way that is enjoyable for everyone. I want to bring a proper sense of community within the course, where people actually know each other, and feel included. Pharmacology can be intense, and It's so much easier and fun when you're not doing it in isolation. I'd love to help create more chances for students across all years to mix, and feel like they belong, through socials, themed events or general meet ups.

At the same time, I want the society to be helpful, not just social. I'd like to make it normal for people to share advice, and how to find opportunities outside of university. As Vice President, I would also focus on running events that bring people together, while also setting up practical support. My aim is a society that feels lively and friendly, but also leaves member feeling more confident and supported in the degree.

I have long been fascinated by how medicines influence the human body, and how even small changes in molecular structure can shape biological systems and ultimately impact human health.

Since joining the Pharmacology programme at UCL, I have met peers who share an incredible level of enthusiasm for this field. Being surrounded by such motivated individuals has pushed me to learn more, challenge myself, and take greater pride in the discipline I am studying.

The Pharmacology Society plays an important role in bringing this community together. Through its events and activities, it connects students with like-minded peers, senior students, and those from other universities, while also exposing us to a wide range of research areas and career paths within pharmacology.

Having benefited from these opportunities myself, I would like to contribute to creating more of them as part of the Society’s committee. As Vice President, I hope to support the President and the committees while helping to organise initiatives that strengthen the sense of community within the society and encourage meaningful engagement with pharmacology.

I am particularly excited about working with people who bring different ideas and perspectives, and I look forward to helping build an inclusive and collaborative environment for students who share a passion for pharmacology.
