Being part of the Music Society has been one of the highlights of my first year at UCL. Between playing violin in String and Mezzo Orchestra, singing soprano in Symphony Chorus, surviving intense rehearsals alongside coursework deadlines, and going to pub socials and even regular mahjong gatherings, I've come to treasure every single moment in this community.

I would now like to give back by serving both current and future members as Treasurer. I've been budgeting my own spending since I was young (arguably a little too enthusiastically), creating my own tracking systems and spreadsheets which I believe would translate well into this role.

I understand that strong financial planning is what keeps a society running smoothly - ensuring rehearsals, performances and events are properly supported. As treasurer, I would prioritise clear communication, transparent spending, equitable budgeting across ensembles, and detailed record-keeping. My goal is to let our musicians focus on their sheet music and not to worry about the balance sheet.

Keefer Ho

I’m running to be the next treasurer of UCL Music Society because I want to continue, and further, the amazing work done by our past committee members in making sure that the society is a place where anyone wishing to play and perform music can. In a university without a music department, such a place is vital. Over the past 2 years, I have been a part of String, Mezzo, Symphony and Band. Alongside our wonderful choirs, these groups must be supported by solid foundations to function.

The most important pillar is our finances. To that end, as treasurer I plan to increase transparency, so every member knows how their membership fees are being used. Additionally, I promise to work efficiently, reimbursing any expenses members have made on behalf of the society without delays. I will also actively pursue grants and subsidies from the SU to increase Music Society’s resources, especially in percussion instruments and music scores. Much of the music played at the level of our unauditioned orchestras are arrangements that we were unable to procure this year. But after a rearrangement of our finances and with the creation of a new UCL Opera Society, next year we have a new opportunity to remedy that and improve the experience of all Music Society members.

I am highly organized and love work with numbers. I am also well acquainted with the SU’s financial frameworks. If you entrust the role to me as your next treasurer, everyone can focus on music and on having fun. Vote for me!

Wesley Ma

Hiya everyone, this is Wesley. As a Y1 chemical engineering student who is passionate about music, I would like to devote my efforts to the music society using the problem-solving and strategic thinking skills I have obtained during my academic journey, to make our society thrive and grow even more.

Being a treasurer in the music society is not only about dealing with numbers, it is about ensuring we in our club feel organised and trusted. Rehearsals and performances shall be scheduled and conducted smoothly, and we can showcase the best musical talents and efforts to offer the audience the wonderful musical experiences, while feeling respected by both the audience and the peers and teachers surrounding us.

Rehearsals and practice can be exhausting, and perhaps we can starting thinking about more ways to celebrate and appreciate our members’ hard works!… All in other words, feeling the joy and happiness both on stage and backstage, let the voices to be heard, and maybe getting more than just biscuits during rehearsals and having more intriguing social events!

If given this valuable opportunity to serve as treasurer, I hope to contribute both my organisational skills and enthusiasm of music for this beloved community of mine by keeping the society financially (and more than just financially) more well structured and enjoyable for you, me and everyone.
