Afrid Rahamathullah

Hello, my name is Afrid and I’m applying for the role of Events Officer because planning our recent Maths Poker Society night with my friends showed me how rewarding it is to take an idea from scratch and turn it into an event people genuinely enjoy. It made me want to do more for ADM, more consistently, and on a bigger scale. If elected, I’ll prioritise regular weekly events so there’s always something to look forward to, with a balance of low-pressure socials like games nights, quizzes, and café meetups, as well as bigger highlights that bring the whole society together. I’ll keep things welcoming, with events that are easy to join and clearly advertised.

A key goal of mine is to organise an ADM trip abroad as a flagship event. I believe this can be a standout weekend that builds friendships across year groups and creates shared memories that last beyond university.

I also want to help deliver an excellent UCL Maths Ball, focusing on strong organisation and attention to detail so it feels special and runs smoothly on the night. Alongside socials, I’ll expand career events by bringing in inspiring speakers, alumni panels, and industry Q&As that give maths students real insight and connections. I’ll organise more collaborations with other societies and work to grow our budget, so we can run better events (and have more free food ;)).

Thank you for reading!

The best mathematics events are the ones that make you see the subject differently. As Events Officer, I want to create those moments for Mathematics Society members.

I regularly attend the London Mathematical Finance seminar series across UCL, LSE, and Imperial, and have been independently pursuing research on numerical methods for the Black-Scholes PDE alongside my Economics degree. I understand what makes a mathematical talk genuinely engaging because I actively seek that kind of intellectual exposure myself.

As Events Officer I would focus on bringing in speakers from both academia and industry, organising problem-solving competitions, and creating events that bridge pure mathematics with real-world applications in finance, computing, and beyond.

My relevant background:

  • Regular attendee of the London Mathematical Finance seminar series
  • Independent research on finite difference methods for the BSM PDE
  • Placed 1st at UCL and 13th worldwide in Jane Street's Estimathon
  • Active academic relationships with faculty at UCL, Warwick, and Manchester
Suhan Wasim

Hello there!
My name is Suhan, and I am running to be an Events Officer for the ADM society.

Our Maths society, despite not collecting a fee to enter, has been remarkably productive when it comes to events, and I plan on using our pre-existing efficiency to introduce more light-hearted and fun events.

These would include activities such as board games, movie nights, anime, and many others that pique the interest of a sufficient number of people. While there is an entire department dedicated to competitions, and likely a lot of my fellow officers who will focus on careers and talks, it is easy to overlook the more fun aspects of University life.

While I will help organise and support talks and career events, voting for me will help ensure there are also a plethora of relaxing events to participate in, so you can engage with people in an unserious and chill environment, when the world is anything but.

I hope you will vote for me, see you next year!

As Events Officer for the Mathematics Society, I would take an active role in planning and delivering engaging events that encourage both academic curiosity and community involvement, while also making the ADM socials more entertaining, engaging, and enjoyable for all members.

Hi! My name is ilana and im a second year Maths student at UCL. Im nominating myself to be one of your events officers next year. As someone who's been involved in several socieiteis and attended multiple events, I know what goes into making a good social. I want to bring that energy to the maths to build a closer community within the department (to help us beat the sterotype of being some of the most boring students 😍). My goal is to create a calendar of fun events where we can actually hang out and get to know each other, a few plans i had in mind to kick thing off include: pizza and paint night, movie nights, board game nights, and lots of pubs crawls/quizzes. I would love to hear your ideas too! So please consider voting for me this year and we'll make this year the most social one yet! 🤩😎🍕🍻‼️

When I joined this year, I noticed that the UCL Undergraduate Maths Colloquium wasn’t being run. Instead of thinking “that’s a shame,” I thought “guess I’m running it then.” I secured a hefty budget from the department, organised speakers, venues, times, advertised it, and made it happen.

I’m a first year, but I don’t wait around for things to happen. I get things done. As events officer I’ll keep weekly academic talks running, but also socials and events that bring everyone together. Finance talks? LaTeX/ MATLAB workshops? Lower-year support sessions that people would actually attend? You name it, I organise.

The Undergraduate maths colloquium is a weekly talk series on maths-related research or any other interesting maths topics. Join us on Wednesdays for engaging maths discussions and free biscuits :) The final 2 talks this term are on the 18th, 25th March and then the colloquium will be restarting in June after exams! Please feel free to get in touch if you have any talk topic requests, if you would like to deliver a talk yourself, or if you have any professors that you would like me to invite!
