Recently, while interviewing seniors for the Times Undergraduate Survey, I reached out to many Malaysians and was struck by how willing they were to help, even if we’ve never met before. It showed me how strong our Malaysian community at UCL can be when communication is open and accessible.
I understand that being a Secretary involves a large part of content creation, announcements, and keeping members updated. I have prior experience in this area through volunteer work with FINCO, where I managed social media content and outreach campaigns to promote financial literacy initiatives. I’ve also supported website development and online communications for the Lambeth GP Food Co-op. These experiences have helped me become comfortable with content planning, drafting announcements, and ensuring communication is clear and aligned with the organisation’s goals.
I plan to introduce recap reels and a recurring “Malaysian Spotlight” series inspired by annual interview formats, where members, committee members, and alumni share reflections on their experiences at UCL. Over time, this could become a tradition that documents the journeys of Malaysians in the society and strengthens our sense of continuity and community.
I am standing because I care about strengthening the culture of Malaysians supporting Malaysians. A connected community wouldn’t be possible without organised coordination, timely updates, and effective communication, all of which are central to the Secretary role.
Assalamualaikum, Salam Sejahtera, and Hello everyone! My name is Azril Aizal, and I am standing to become the Secretary and Community Outreach Officer of UCL Malaysian Society. Participating in MSoc events and the Family System at the start of my UCL life has helped me connect with many amazing people. Through my involvement in MNight 2026 and RD Programme, I saw the potential of greatness this society offers. Experiencing this “home away from home” has inspired me to contribute back to the Malaysian community at UCL.
My goals:
📊UCL MSOC Database - Centralised drive for all MSoc events and member information to be used as meaningful data to plan events & to present for potential collaboration and sponsorships.
❄️Sweater Weather - Official UCL Msoc Sweater/Hoodie so that everyone could represent MSoc in style and comfort.
✈️Life Abroad - Post more content on Instagram relating to Malaysian Student Life & Wellbeing at UCL
🔗Connecting the Dots - Help committee members in terms of public outreach like expanding the reach of Jom Makan, collaboration with other societies and more.
With these in mind, I aim to be a reliable secretary, whether through producing high-quality posts or supporting everyone. Drawing from my experience in past leadership roles, I'm confident that I have the skills required to achieve these goals.
Hope to see you at AGM and remember, vote Azril as your next Secretary and Community Outreach Officer. Thank you❤️
