About Me
As someone that dealt greatly with homesickness as soon as I got to London, I was glad to be surrounded by fellow Malaysians. Whether it was the MSoc Picnic event, or the various dinners, and of course MNight, I always felt a sense of belonging. I love the people, I love the cultures, I love the food (obviously), and I really love being a part of MSoc.
Hence, here I am, running to be the President of UCL Malaysian Society. Although I am aware that this is no easy task, I am confident in my abilities to run this club and I hope you think so too:)
Past Experiences
MSoc
- RD Programme (Gingerbread Kampung & Case Competition events)
- MNight ‘26 (Malay Dance & Indian Dance)
College
- President of Peer Support Group (organised college-wide events and get-togethers)
- President of Indian Cultural Club (organised cultural events and worked with the Malay Cultural Club and Chinese Cultural Club)
- Vice President of Electronics Club (planned trips and hackathons for members)
Manifesto
As president, there are a wide array of aspects that I want to add to and improve on. This consists of:
- Events & Sports - bring people together through themed events and sports
- Mental Health - keep things relatable and meaningful
- External Relations - strengthen relationship with other societies and alumni
- Coordination & Management - revamp affairs among committee
- Career & Sponsorships - prioritise the members’ needs

The move from a place I have lived in my entire life to a completely unfamiliar environment, was extremely nerve-wracking to me. I had no idea how I would fit in, how I would find friends and how I would find people whom I can depend upon. That feeling changed completely after the MSOC pre-departure camp. There was a shift from concern to excitement as I was introduced to those in the committee and those who I call my very close friends today. It was truly one of the most fun days I have ever had, with people who I knew nothing about just a day before.
After taking an interest in MSOC and signing up for the family and RD programme, I became more familiar with what the society does, how it operates, and got to meet so many other friends.
After being taught and given so much by the MSOC, I feel like it's only fair for me to carry the responsibility of giving this same vibrant experience to my friends, and to the incoming 1st years of 2026-27. It would truly be an honour to take on this position. I have taken up leadership roles in school as Head Student and as Sports House Captain; which I know has made me well equipped for the challenges any leader faces. I believe that by building on what already works extremely well, coupled with restructuring and additional events & programmes, we could truly bring MSOC to its very best and help maintain it at that level. That's a goal that I cannot achieve without you, and it can only be done with your vote.
Attached here is my Manifesto
Studying abroad, I know what it feels like to miss home and I know how important it is to have that feeling of having a home away from home. UCLMSOC has surrounded me with a community that provides me a sense of comfort and belonging. As President, I would like to be able to help every member feel this same sense of warmth. I want to give back to this community and I believe I can help it be even more supportive, connected and Malaysian.

Hi, I’m Hilary!
Prior to joining UCL, I was unprepared for just how homesick I'd be. Being in MSoc changed the way I viewed my identity as a Malaysian, and it’s truly the people here who have shaped my experience in London so positively. From spilling tea in Chinatown with my MSoc family, to excitedly waiting for friends with flowers in hand after MNight, to befriending seniors I cold messaged on LinkedIn, I've made so many memories and cherished connections that wouldn't have happened without the warm, supportive network MSoc provided.
Through the RD programme, I experienced another side of MSoc - the hard work that goes into making these events great. The late night meetings, hard budgeting trade-offs and whimsical side quests taught me resilience and flexibility, but also gave me wonderful friendships and inspiration for new ways to bond with and better one another.
That being said, I aim to deliver in 2 main ways: Inclusivity and Empowerment. These new initiatives will cover welfare and careers, while building on the foundations of the previous committee, whose legacy and hard work I want to honor. As your president, I'll be a vehicle for your ambitions, fusing the collective visions of my committee and Society members to drive us together and upwards.
To know more about what I’ll bring to MSoc as President, here’s my manifesto (plus a written extension for more clarity, and my CV). See you at the AGM!
