Candidates

Bethan Sullivan (She/her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

As LGBTQIA+ Representative for UCL Gender & Feminism Society and an active member of Sexpression and Amnesty, I already advocate for queer students on campus. I am particularly committed to improving representation for LGBTQ+ women and sapphic students, whose voices are often sidelined. I will bring collaborative leadership, strong communication, and a clear focus on intersectional, community-led change.

Vote for real, queer ideas and values.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I want to increase visibility, welfare support and community spaces for LGBTQIA+ students, with a specific focus on sapphic and queer women’s representation. Too often, queer spaces centre male experiences. I will work to create events, campaigns and safe spaces that prioritise LGBTQ+ women, while also ensuring trans, non-binary and marginalised identities are meaningfully included.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Vote for me for focused, intersectional LGBTQIA+ representation. I am already active in UCL’s equality spaces and committed to uplifting sapphic and LGBTQ+ women’s voices alongside the wider queer community. I will be visible, proactive and accountable — working to ensure no part of our community feels overlooked or secondary.

Joe Yiu Ip (he/him)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
  • Currently serving as LGBTQ+ Network Welfare Officer; working closely with the current officer to bring continuity and new ideas
  • Youth Ambassador for an LGBTQ+ charity working on allyship, community and education; taking many skills workshops

I believe the skills I gained through the workshops and training in this role will become applicable if I am elected. I love discussing LGBTQ+ issues and campaigning for our inclusion in all spaces, and I seek to work collaboratively to ensure everyone is included. I will bring campaign action for the network, ensuring we stay active in supporting our rights

LGBTQyiu: the officer for you
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Some of the things I want to achieve are:

  • Greater interdepartmental collaboration on LGBTQ+ issues
  • Regular LGBTQ+ friendly careers events
  • A variety of social events, from walking tours, pub crawls, and group outings
  • Volunteering and charity opportunities
  • More funding for the Gender Expression Fund

I wish to campaign on ensuring that students across all faculties feel safe and welcome at UCL. LGBTQ+ students should feel safe from discrimination, and I want to ensure intersectional issues on ethnicity, gender, and socio-economic status are addressed to create a better community and increase engagement

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Vote for me as a well-experienced student leader and champion of LGBTQ+ rights, committed to going above and beyond to ensure that all groups feel safe and have a sense of community at UCL. Working to get inclusivity in all departments, networks, and societies through collaboration in events and policy. I will work with other members of the network to ensure that events are run regularly and are tailored to the needs of all LGBTQ+ students, and ensure that the network is campaigning for your rights beyond the SU; the wider London area and UK & greater representation of the TQ+ community at UCL
