I'm nominating myself for Careers Officer because I have genuine passion for legal tech and concrete ideas for how this role can better serve members. The intersection of law and technology fascinates me, commercial lawyers in this space work with minimal governing caselaw and clients whose risk profiles differ from traditional matters. As legal tech and data-focused seats grow in importance, members need greater access to knowledge about careers in this sector, and I want to facilitate that. I bring strong leadership experience. As MUN Vice President, I organised weekly committees for 50+ students, prepared research briefs, and coordinated inter-school competitions. As Law Society President, I identified opportunities, sourced insights from successful applicants, and presented resources to support members' applications, skills directly transferable to this role. I also bring first-hand application experience, having secured places at Milbank, Kirkland & Ellis, and Slaughter and May events, and been one of 40 interviewed for Latham's first-year scheme. My ideas are twofold. First, broadening panel events beyond A&O to include firms like Simmons & Simmons and those with strong but lesser-known legal tech seats, giving members a fuller picture of careers across the sector. Second, creating a consolidated resource document profiling firms' legal tech departments through direct trainee insight, information not easily found online that would greatly aid members' applications.
I am extremely interested in the legal tech space. Wanting to be a legal professional, like most members of this society, I want to understand legal tech not just out of interest, but also to make my professional life easier. By understanding and being able to use software such as Solomonic, who we had a session with, we are able to be on top of the tech game within law.
As Careers Officer, I will ensure the society allows you to explore how legal tech interacts with different legal careers. Whether you want to be a solicitor, barrister, work in policymaking, or pursue another path, I want to provide the events and connections that allow you to understand and explore legal tech from all these perspectives. To further your interest, technical knowledge, and ultimately your career, I will increase the number of talks and workshops we offer. I also want to help you find hands-on opportunities, such as internships, workshops, or shadowing placements in legal tech companies, by extending and deepening the society's relationships with current collaborators while also introducing new companies and innovations for members to explore.
In high school, I led five societies simultaneously, including the two largest in my school. This equipped me with the organisation, grit, and communication skills needed to turn my ideas into action and secure targeted events and networks that help you advance your career.
I’m excited about the society's future and would love to work with you next year!
