Hey everyone!! I’m Karim, a second-year HPE student running to be events officer for the UCL Law for All Society. This is what I hope to bring to the Law for All society as events officer:
• Experience with organising events at UCL– Having been UCL Snowsports social secretary for the last year. I’ve gained experience in running various events, from regular socials to formals. Which I think leaves me in a position to apply that to a career-based society. I hope to get more socials going on and collaborations with various societies.
•Application support and help– Having secured a vacation scheme with a US firm, I’ve gained an understanding of the application process. I hope to use this experience to help others by running TCLA-style mock interviews. Being a member of Aspiring Solicitors has also put me in a position where I can help students from diverse backgrounds access opportunities catered to them, through expanding opportunities initiatives, which I hope to make more students aware of.
• International Opportunities- Knowing how international our student body is hereand the many students who are keen to move abroad after university, I will try to expand the opportunities LfA members have to engage with vac schemes and training contracts across the world. Having secured my vac scheme in the Middle East, I’m in a position where I have a grasp of the key differences and can better help students navigate the world of international corporate law.
Thanks for your consideration.
To me, law represents a blend of technical expertise and practical application. Similar to legal counsel, the role of an events officer is one that requires a pragmatic approach. Constantly assimilating and adapting from my experience, coordinating events is something that comes naturally to me.
My professional experience demonstrated my ability to adapt to an ever-changing legal landscape, as well as coordinating with third-party vendors for clients as a paralegal. Consequently, communication and organisation skills became natural to me. Arranging events to spread legal application knowledge to a new cohort excites me.
Having secured three legal internships, converting one into six months of paralegal experience, and attended several law firm open days, I believe I am well-equipped to deliver expertise to a new cohort of applicants. I want to help organise high-impact events such as application workshops, commercial awareness sessions, and inviting future trainees for panel Q&As. I want to provide members with actionable, not abstract, advice.I would prioritise collaboration with the committee members, structured event planning, taking on feedback from members, aiming to consistently improve engagement and turnout.
There is no ‘correct’ background for law. This profession is for all and to stay. The profession is evolving - and Law4All should reflect that evolution.
Hi everyone! I’m Jake, a first-year History student.
Breaking into the legal profession can often feel opaque rather than simply competitive. There are countless events, schemes and application processes, yet it isn’t always clear how they connect or where to begin. I’m running for Events Officer because I want to organise events that give members clearer direction and practical exposure to the profession.
Through attending numerous firm events and navigating the early stages of the application process myself, I’ve been fortunate to secure places on first-year schemes with Slaughter and May, Simmons & Simmons, and Brabners, and recently interviewed for the Linklaters Pathfinders Scheme, with the outcome currently pending.
If elected, I would organise events that are practical, engaging and accessible, including: • Application deconstruction sessions analysing successful CVs, cover letters and interview answers to understand what actually makes candidates stand out. • Networking events with trainees, associates and graduate recruiters
• Panels with non-law students and graduates who have entered the profession.
• Interactive case-study sessions where members work through realistic legal or commercial problems and present advice as a team.
Alongside this, I would foster a welcoming community through informal socials where members can connect with others interested in law.
I would really appreciate your vote. Thank you!
I am a History student pursuing a career in commercial law. Coming from a non-law background has meant being deliberate about seeking out opportunities, and the events run by the Law for All Society have been an important way of learning about the profession. I would like to help create those same opportunities for other students, particularly those who may not know where to start. I have coordinated and delivered events across a range of settings. As a Senior Student Ambassador at UCL, I regularly manage open days and Q&A sessions for audiences of over 100 prospective students. Through my EDI Shadow Board role, I have designed and delivered university-level initiatives with inclusion at their core. I have also worked in hospitality, running large-scale events where precision and composure under pressure were essential. Through my roles in retail, I have developed strong communication, teamwork and adaptability skills. As Events Officer, I would focus on delivering well organised and useful events: panels with practising lawyers and alumni, application workshops, and clearer signposting of opportunities such as insight programmes and vacation schemes for students who may not yet know how to navigate the profession. I would also want to create socials that make the society welcoming and encourage members to connect with one another. My main goal would be to have members leave events more informed, connected and confident about where they are headed in their career in law.
Events are the best way for non-law students to understand whether to make the difficult decision to take up a career in law; for me, attending an insight day at Sidley was what made me think that law could be a real possibility. Events are one of the only ways to stand out on Vacation scheme application so it's really important that we do as many as possible! As events officer, I would endeavour to source varied opportunities, working closely with the marketing team to make sure everyone is aware of the events that are available. And importantly, as events officer, I would also try to get mooting sessions up and running!
