I would love the opportunity to be JSOC Welfare officer because I care about making sure our community feels safe, supported and comfortable for everyone. University can often feel very overwhelming at times, and I am very aware of how mental health and stress can affect day-to-day life and overall well-being. Having someone who is approachable and willing to listen can make a massive difference. I want to be someone people feel they can come to without hesitation, whether they need serious support or just a friendly conversation. Jsoc has been such an important part of my time at UCL so far. It is one of the few places Jewish students can relax and be themselves without fear or pressure. I have made some of my closest friends through Jsoc and the sense of belonging has meant a lot to me. I would love to make sure that everyone, especially those who are new or unsure at first feel that same warmth and inclusion. I would descibe myself as friendly, empathetic and approachable, and I would take the responsibility of this role seriously. I care deeply about Jsoc and would be grateful for the opportunity to support our community in this way.
Hi, I’m Yossi, a 1st year History undergraduate and I would love to be your next Jsoc Welfare Officer.
Throughout the year, I’ve been very involved in Jsoc, from attending lunch and learns (even when I have lectures!), helping to build the Succah and even delivering a lunch and learn session about Holocaust Memorial Day.
I’ve had experience in looking out for the welfare of other people such as through Bnei Akiva UK as a Madrich and through local youth Minyanim. I feel it is very important for there to be proactive leadership in Jsoc which both protects and advances the welfare of the community.
So, why should you vote for me?
I will continue to promote and further extend the following areas:
Approachability- Perhaps the most important thing in welfare is the ability for individuals to feel comfortable to approach and discuss their feelings. I want to further develop an atmosphere where this is ingrained in the Jsoc community.
Empathetic- Welfare officer is a two-way street, along with creating an approachable atmosphere, as welfare officer I want you to feel heard and welcome into the community, where there are always people who you can turn to.
Proactivity- In addition to being reactive to the ever-changing climate, I will look to make welfare an area which is proactive, designing programmes to create awareness about a range of topics, from mental health to leading welfare initiatives from the bottom-up.
You're welcome to find me or drop me a message if you have any questions!
