「人は城。」(武田信玄)
“People are the castle.” — Takeda Shingen, a samurai warlord.
To me, it’s a reminder that a community’s strength comes from its members. That’s why, as Treasurer, I want to make our budget work for members.

Hi everyone, I’m Kufu (空風), a first-year civil engineering student from Hiroshima.
I want UCL Japan Society to deliver high-quality activities that benefit members, while keeping access fair and financially sustainable.

Experience

  • First student council president at a newly established high school:
I learned events strengthen a community when budgets are realistic and responsibilities are clear.
  • Living in a full boarding school with student-run dormitory governance:
I saw how transparency and consistent rules support participation in a diverse community.
  • Vice president of my high school alumni association:
I currently help manage the budget and support event delivery.

Why Treasurer matters
UCL Japan Society can return more value through more frequent and larger activities. A stable financial foundation helps us keep key events running year to year and expand member benefits such as discounts.

What I will do as Treasurer

  • Practical budgeting and early cost checks before committing to paid events
  • Fair, sustainable pricing, while protecting member value through discounts
  • Reliable administration with clear records and on-time Students’ Union submissions

名にかけて、「風」林火山の姿勢で務めます。
Fast and responsive when needed, steady and disciplined with the budget.

I’d appreciate your vote.

Teru Misaki

Hi everyone, I am Teru, a first-year Mathematics with Economics student at UCL.

I'm running for Treasurer because I am passionate about managing funds to provide high-quality experiences for everyone interested in Japan. My background in mathematics and interest in financial markets have helped me develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills, which are essential for handling larger funds responsibly. I have also been involved in analyzing companies and financial statements, which has strengthened my interest in strategic allocation of resources.

The Japan Society has been an incredible community for me, not just because of its unique events, but because it brings together people who share an interest in Japan from diverse backgrounds. I would love to contribute by making sure that every member can enjoy well-funded events and keeping our community sustainable.

To achieve this goal, I would:

• Manage the Society’s funds responsibly, ensuring transparency for all members
• Allocate more resources to cultural and social events that connect Japanese and non-Japanese students
• Organise special events such as Japan Society dinners or collaborations with other universities in London
Explore sponsorships or partnerships to increase our budget for high-quality experiences

I am committed to using my analytical and numerical skills to help the Japan Society grow and provide memorable experiences for everyone.

Thank you for your support and please vote for me!

Ema Hashimoto

Hello everyone!
I’m Ema, a first-year Medical Physics student from Japan, and I’m running for Treasurer of Japan Society.

As someone who is Japanese, Japan Society is especially meaningful to me. It’s been such a joy to see people from all backgrounds come together because of a shared interest in Japanese culture. Being able to share parts of my culture while also seeing how others appreciate and interpret it has been incredibly rewarding.

This year, as a sub-committee member, I had the honour of helping events and supporting the committee behind the scenes. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of how much planning, coordination, and financial organisation goes into making each event successful. I’ve seen how important careful budgeting is in keeping events running smoothly. That’s why I would love to step up next year as Treasurer and contribute even more to the society’s growth.

As Treasurer, I aim to:
• Manage the society’s funds responsibly to ensure we remain financially stable and can continue hosting the events we all enjoy
• Maintain, and if possible increase member discounts and benefits
• Ensure transparency in how our funds are used, so members feel informed and involved

I am responsible, organised, and committed to making sure our resources are handled carefully so we can continue delivering high-quality and enjoyable events.
Please vote for me, and let’s make next year even more memorable together!

Thank you!

Joshua Wong

Hi everyone, this is Joshua! I am a second year theoretical physics student.

I initially joined Japan Society because I was interested in Japanese culture and wanted to learn more about it. Moreover, joining the committee as design officer this year has made me learn more about how the society works behind each event. Being both as a member and as a committee has made me know that there are more ways to use the money to benefit members, so I am interested in being the treasurer next year!

Why me :

  1. I am part of the committee this year, meaning that I understand clearly how the society is operating and how to improve next year

  2. I am good at calculations, so I can manage and control the capital well, making sure the amount is used for each event is optimised and reasonable

My objections :

  1. Transparency of money flow
  • Share expenditure every month on Instagram
  • State the amount used for preparation and subsidisation for each event

  1. Search for more discounts from popular shops and restaurants among members of the society

  1. Subsidise more events, so that members get to enjoy events such as sushi making and boat party with a lower price

  1. Prepare free food and snacks in advance for events, so that more members would eager to join our events

  1. Organise joint-school events with other Japan societies among LUJS, and joint-society events within UCL
  • Joint-school Japan society talent quest
  • Cultural exchange event with other UCL cultural societies
  • Bunkasai

I believe I can be impactful to the
