Lakshmi Sindhu Janipireddy

I would like to become the Sports Officer for the Indian Society because I am passionate about sport and the way it brings people together. As someone who currently participates in competitive swimming and kabaddi, I understand the value of teamwork, discipline, and staying active. Through this role, I would love to help organise more sporting opportunities for members and encourage greater participation, particularly by starting and promoting more women’s sports such as netball within the society. I want to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels confident getting involved, trying new sports, and representing the society in a fun and supportive way.

Krish

Hello everyone, my name is Krish and I am applying to become Sports Officer. Sport has always been one of the main ways I’ve connected with people and built a strong sense of community. Being part of Indian Society has been the highlight of my first year at UCL, and I would love the opportunity to give back by helping grow and improve its sporting side.

As Sports Officer, I aim to increase regular football fixtures by entering the weekly 7- or 8-a-side league and organising friendlies with other societies. I also want to establish consistent cricket and netball teams, while introducing additional sports based on member interest (such as squash, badminton, kabaddi, or whatever everyone likes) to make sports within Indian Society more inclusive and accessible. Alongside this, I would organise more team socials to strengthen bonds and create a welcoming environment for all members.

I believe I am a strong fit for this role as I am organised, proactive, and passionate about both sport and community-building. I am reliable, communicate effectively, and work well within a team. I would ensure sports events are well-run, inclusive, and enjoyable, while representing Indian Society positively across UCL.

I’m applying for Sports Officer because sport has always been a huge part of my life. I used to play county cricket, which taught me discipline, teamwork, and leadership, but also how powerful sport is in building friendships and bringing people together. Even beyond playing, I’ve always loved watching sport, especially cricket, and I understand just how big it is culturally, particularly in India. That sense of collective excitement and pride is something I’d love to channel into India Soc.

I think sport is such an effective way to strengthen community spirit within a society. Whether it’s competitive tournaments, casual matches, or even screening big games together, there’s so much potential to create shared experiences. Having helped host Culture Day at my school, I’ve seen how events outside of academics can really bring people closer, and I’d love to create that same sense of unity through sport. For me, this role wouldn’t just be about organising fixtures, it would alsobe about fostering inclusivity, encouraging participation at all levels, and using sport as another way to build a strong, connected India Soc community.

Sport is the heartbeat of community. As someone who lives and breathes fitness, I understand the discipline and drive it takes to succeed.  Im running for Sports Director to turn this personal passion for sports into a professionally managed, high energy sports department for this society. Being someone who has been in managerial roles before, such as captaining the 2nd XI and being awarded an art scholarship, I can handle the admin of fixtures and the diplomacy of inter-university games whilst ensuring that our teams are the best.  One major goal of mine is to diversify our sports offerings even past cricket and netball.  I'm someone who enjoys playing a very wide variety of sports and have the ability to teach these sports.  This will create more avenues for members to represent the society and build a stronger community through friendly competition.  Furthermore, I have a very good creative eye which would translate onto the kits I would design, reflecting the prestige of our society. Having lived in London, I'm uniquely positioned to source the best venues, sponsors and coordinate with other universities for a packed inter-uni calendar.  Lastly, I know for some people joining a sport can be daunting, therefore as the sports director I would ensure a safe and friendly environment where everyone is welcome.   Im not just a fan of sports but an organiser who has the social reach to make all feel welcome whilst maintaining that essential competitive edge that defines sport.
