Hi, I’m Saanvi Nagaraj and I’m a 1st Year Medic. I am applying to run for Social Secretary for Indian Society. I believe I am suitable for this role as it encompasses the publicity and social media aspects of the society. Previously at my Sixth Form, I was appointed as the Communications Prefect where I created the termly newsletter through leadership and delegating tasks to others in the wider Prefect Team as well as manage the Instagram and other socials. I also acted as the Publicity Officer for the Medic Mentor Virtual Medical Society where planning and communication was essential - I planned multiple sessions where presentations, social media posts and many publicity forms had to be created before the session was approved. In conclusion, I think I am suited for this role due to my vast experience dealing with promotional material and social media communications - skills necessary to excel in this role.
I want to be social secretary because I want Indian society to be a place where everyone feels genuinely excited to attend - whether thats for huge cultural events or more relaxed community-focused socials. I want to help create events that are bold and memorable whilst balancing traditional elements with modern influences, so that everyone feels represented. However, events don't feel exciting unless they are marketed well which is why social media is so crucial in promoting them. Recently, I conceptualised and executed a TikTok with my friends which went viral. Creating content taught me a lot about audience engagement and how trends can be used strategically to maximise views. If chosen, I would work closely with the marketing and sales team to ensure our events are not only well-planned, but also effectively promoted. Ultimately, I want our events to feel unmissable both online and in person and I think I'd be the perfect fit in ensuring this!
Coming to UCL this year, one of the things that made settling in so much easier was finding the Indian Society. Moving to a new city and starting university can feel overwhelming at first, but Indian Soc quickly became one of the spaces where things started to feel familiar.
What stood out to me was how the society manages to feel both big and close-knit at the same time. The events bring everyone together, but the family system makes it feel much more personal. Having that smaller group within such a large society makes it easier to meet people, build friendships, and feel like you actually belong.
Some of my best memories from this year have come from those moments, from meeting new people at events, spending time with my family, and seeing how easily the society brings people together.
That’s why I want to be Social Secretary. I’d love to help organise events that people genuinely look forward to and that continue to bring the whole society together, across all years and ages. For a lot of people, especially first years, these events are where friendships start and where UCL begins to feel like home. As social secretary, I hope I can play a part in creating those experiences and giving them the same space that I was fortunate to find.
Hey. I am Aryan and I am a first year Geography and Economics student at UCL. I’m running for Social Secretary because I want India Society to be one of the most fun, welcoming, and vibrant communities at UCL
At my previous school, I helped organise and host a range of social events including comedy shows, quizzes, and charity olympics. These events were some of the highlights of the year because they brought people together, created great memories, and gave everyone something exciting to look forward to. I really enjoyed both organising and participating in them, and I’d love to continue creating that same atmosphere within India Society.
If elected, I want to organise a variety of socials that reflect the energy and diversity of our community. This could include Bollywood and music-themed socials, games and quiz nights, comedy events, charity sports matches, and relaxed meet-ups where members can get to know each other better. My aim is to create events where both new and returning members can enjoy the community.
India Society should be more than just events. It should feel like a community where people can celebrate culture, make friends, and create lasting memories.
I would like to become the Social Secretary for the Indian Society because I enjoy bringing people together and creating a welcoming, fun environment for everyone in the community. I am passionate about organising social events that celebrate Indian culture while also giving members a chance to meet new people and build friendships. Through this role, I hope to plan engaging and inclusive activities that make members feel connected and proud to be part of the society. I am enthusiastic, creative, and organised, and I believe these qualities will help me contribute to memorable experiences for all members.
I am standing for social secretary as I believe that I can bring an improvement due to previous experience in planning events. I know what it takes to make a good event whether that be a big event like dhamaal or a smaller event like a games night and I can help make the social leaders vision come to life. I will also push for more frequent smaller socials throughout the year in order to encourage more memberships for indian soc.
I’m applying for Head of Socials because creating spaces where people feel connected and included is something I genuinely care about. Having hosted Culture Day at my school, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful events can be in bringing people together and celebrating identity in a fun, relaxed way. I love India Soc because of the atmosphere at its events — there’s such a strong sense of unity and belonging — and I’d love to contribute to building that even further. As Head of Socials, I’d aim to organise events that balance big flagship nights with smaller, more intimate socials so everyone feels comfortable getting involved. For me, it’s about creating moments where people can make friendships, celebrate culture, and feel proud to be part of the society.
