Annikka Hoefflin

Hi,

My name is Annikka. I am going into my third year in my History BA and I have been a member of History Society since my first year. This year, I have been one of your events organisers (you may have met me at one of our museum visits throughout the year) and I would like to utilise what I know as your next president. This club is so special to many of us and I hope to continue the great collaborations we have had over the year as well as bring in more opportunities for general social events such as pub crawls, movie showings, and also activities that we can do outside during the warmer months. I have had leadership experience both within this soc and outside having served as the treasurer of Medieval soc, as well as the president of the History Club at my high school. I absolutely adore the amount of new people I meet through this society, whether in this department or outside of it, and my goal will be to bring more people together through both already beloved and new events. As for a bit about me, outside of general history I love both art and music histories across all periods and I hope to bring more art historical events into the events rotation (such as trips to museums - look out for an upcoming trip to the National Gallery with me before the end of term). Lastly I want to make it easier to hear from YOU, I hope to set up an idea submission document for events you would like to see organised on a bigger scale trough the society.

Thank you,

Anni :)

Anna Huitema

Hey! My name is Anna and I am going into my second year.

My vision for the History Society is social: a weekly space where people get to know each other. Our members do courses with minimal contact hours, which can be lonely. I want our society to be the place where you see familiar faces, make new friends, and feel part of a community.

I am committed to weekly socials — whether that’s hot chocolate and cookies, a historical movie night, karaoke, or a casual pub evening. What’s most important is that we show up reliably and consistently.

Furthermore, we will have monthly cultural trips and events, like exploring a London neighbourhood on a historical tour, a lecture and discussion with pizza, a trip to the Imperial War Museum, or a day in Bath.

The history society would also benefit from department collaborations each term, like a pub social after a lecture series. This will help strengthen connections between students and staff, as well as make the most of what’s already happening in the department.

As Academic Rep for History, I’m up-to-date with the department and aware of what students across all years need. I have strong connections with both staff and students who care about our experience.

Lastly, cross-year contact is an opportunity for mentorship. When we help first-years with proofreading essays or advise on lecturers and module selection, they will not only feel welcome, but also do the same for their first-years.

What’s most important is that we show up for each other <3

Macy Farrell

Hi, I’m Macy, and I’m a first-year History student

I frankly spend too much time getting excited about history, and it would be lovely to have a role to channel that into. If anyone cares about my competency, I ran a society in college (Intersectional Feminist Society) and had loads of fun, put lots of effort in and provided lots of snacks, and would love to do it again. This time, with history! I love history soc, and I want it to become the society that every other subject is jealous of.

Here’s what I’ll do if you vote for me:

  • I’ll make sure events are varied. I know some of you love a pub crawl, some people love a movie night, some people prefer talks, museum visits, academic/career support and some, parties. I will, of course, make sure that history soc is shaped by your input, but I want to make sure that all input has a place.
  • Lots of free and affordable events. I will make sure the society continues to be easily accessible
  • Creating a community. Fun events, chosen by you, mean a bigger turnout, more society members, and even more people to meet
  • Support with career progression, so you’ll know what to say when your relatives ask, “What will you do with that history degree?” (UCL alumni talks, careers information, promotion of talks and events that will help you in specific industries, internship progression support)
  • Crucially, History balls shaped by your opinion, in terms of food, music, venue, and theme.

Thanks everyone and..

Vote Macy for President!
