I’m running for Hindy Society Treasurer because I don’t see the role simply as someone who “keeps the books”,I see it as someone who engineers the society’s capital allocation strategy.
What differentiates me is that I’ve managed money in three completely different environments: teaching 190 families how to track every dollar they earned, analysing cost-efficiency under corporate constraints during my internship and allocating emergency funds during a pandemic where every decision had human consequences. I’ve built budgeting templates from scratch, conducted variance analysis when projections didn’t match reality, and reported transparently when accountability truly mattered.
But beyond technical skill,I think like an allocator. I naturally ask: what is the marginal return of this event? Does this speaker generate long-term member value? Is this sponsorship structured optimally? As Treasurer, I wouldn’t just record transactions ,I would design clear financial dashboards, forecast event cash flows, stress-test budgets against lower-than-expected turnout, and ensure every pound compounds in value for members.
The role is defined by discipline, risk awareness, and strategic deployment.I bring that mindset.I want our finances to reflect the same precision and intentionality that we discuss in our religon. That alignment between what we learn and how we operate is why I’m running.
Being part of the UCL Hindu Society has been nothing short of spectacular. Through meeting so many new people, this society has really made it feel like my home away from home which I why would like to become a part of this family and run for next year's treasurer.
Although having been (unfortunately) rejected from becoming an FYR, this didn't demotivate me in any way. Through attending many of the events like Garba and Rangeela, I've been able to grow spiritually, which is something I aim to do further by joining the Hindu Soc Committee for next year.
I believe that my previous experience is well suited to the treasurer role. From achieving A* in A-Level Accounting to having work experience at J.P Morgan, handling finances and managing budgets shouldn't be an issue for me. As an Economics student, I know all about effectively allocating resources so having the honour of being the treasurer of Hindu Soc essentially would be a match like no other.
I also understand that being the treasurer especially for such an important society comes with great responsibility, especially through supporting the President. My experience at an accounting company where I focused on attaining new clients helped me enhance my managerial and communication skills which is perfect for this role.
Ultimately, I am eager to give back to the Hindu Soc by contributing to its growth and success and ensuring that I can add value and enhance the experience for all members next year.
Coming to uni, I was looking for something familiar in a new place, people who’d make London feel like home, and welcome me with open arms. HSoc was that from the start. It wasn’t just the big events; it was the small moments too. The first social at Chaiiwala at the beginning of term is where I met some of my closest friends. Being an FYR has let me see even more of what goes into creating that atmosphere by working closely with the committee, and it’s made me want to step up and give back.
I’m standing for Treasurer because it matches my skills and how I work. Studying Economics has trained me to think ahead, weigh trade-offs, and keep things structured. As Financial Director of a YE company, I learnt how to keep finances organised, make decisions with limited resources, and stay clear and accountable when things get busy. It also gave me the confidence to lead, take ownership, bring people together, and make sure plans get delivered. In sixth form, as Head of Culture Society, I organised a charity Diwali Ball that raised around £2,500, which taught me budgeting, planning, coordinating people, and staying calm when things don’t go perfectly. As Treasurer, I’ll work closely with the President, keep budgets and accounts tight, follow Students’ Union rules, and build strong relationships with sponsors and suppliers so events run smoothly.
HSoc feels like home to so many of us. I want to protect that feeling and help it grow fairly, openly, and with purpose as your Treasurer.
I believe I would be a good fit for Treasurer of UCL Hindu Society due to my prior leadership roles that required financial responsibility and my commitment to helping the society grow, as it has been such a welcoming community. Having grown up closely connected to Hindu traditions and culture, being part of the society has been especially meaningful to me and motivates me to contribute to its continued success. Through being CFO of my start-up, I developed detailed 3-statement models and forecasted financial transactions. Ultimately, our sound financials and my confidence to back up financial decisions with data were key in acquiring the £1.5k funding offer from external investors. This shows I have experience presenting clear statements and obtaining funding, skills that I would implement as Treasurer in securing external sponsorships next year while maintaining careful and accountable financial records throughout the year. In addition, as President of my school’s Economics Society, I developed organisational skills while coordinating with a committee to raise funding and promote the society. Our work helped increase attendance by 300% and allowed us to become the most-funded society in our school. I am excited to contribute to a society that plays an important role in building community at UCL, and more specifically, as its Treasurer, I want to combine my financial discipline, leadership experience and cultural background to make this society even better than this year.
