Christina Liu

Hi, I’m Christina, a first-year Geography and Economics student at UCL with a strong interest in sustainability, green finance, and the future of responsible economic systems. I am inspired by the Green Economy Society’s mission to explore how environmental responsibility, innovation, and economic development can work together to drive meaningful change.

If elected President, I would focus on strengthening three key areas.

First, academic depth and real-world relevance. I aim to organise structured speaker series on green finance, climate policy, sustainable investment, and ESG strategy, ensuring events build progressively rather than existing as isolated talks. I would also introduce practical workshops such as case discussions, policy simulations, and sustainability consulting challenges.

Second, partnerships and visibility. I would expand collaborations with other UCL societies, industry professionals, and external organisations to create interdisciplinary dialogue and broader opportunities for members.

Third, community and inclusion. Sustainability is not limited to one discipline. I want to ensure the Society remains welcoming to students from all academic backgrounds, creating an environment where ideas, curiosity, and collaboration thrive.

My goal is to build a society that is intellectually rigorous, professionally valuable, and genuinely impactful—positioning Green Economy Society as a leading voice on sustainability at UCL.

As a member of the UCL Green Economy Society since the start of my first year, when I first discovered it at the Freshers’ Fair, I was immediately hooked. It sounded intriguing, practical, and genuinely welcoming, and two academic years later, I would now love the opportunity to continue contributing as President and continue growing this community.

I am passionate about organising events that continue to bring real industry insight to our members. I would like to continue hosting speakers from across the sustainability sectors and create engaging, thoughtful discussions that provide genuine value to students, just as I have benefited from over the past two years. I truly enjoy connecting with our guest speakers and learning from them. I would love the opportunity to moderate discussions, ask the key questions, and build relationships that continue to bring inspiring professionals to talk at UCL.

This year, I took on the role of Research Analyst, producing articles that were published on the society’s LinkedIn page. I shared these with my wider network and developed a real passion for contributing thoughtful, well-researched content. It strengthened both my engagement with society and my commitment to promoting sustainability-centred discussion.

I see this role as a great opportunity and responsibility to continue strengthening a society that has already provided me with so much, and to inspire the next generation of sustainability leaders at UCL.

For the past year I have been very admiring of the great work done by UCL Green Economy Society. As an active member, I have attended most events and have grasped the essence and mission of the society when chatting with the current committee. As a second-year law student from Brazil, I intend to work in the environmental legal field and have learned a great deal from the GES panels and speaker events.

I believe I have a lot to contribute to the society and its continuing mission of educating the student body on the many developing aspects of the global green economy. As President, my mission would be to continue with diverse fields of economic speakers, including engineered geologists, economists, and lawyers, but also proposing more social events such as pub socials, research journal launch parties, and including collaborations with other societies to increase our campus presence.

I have attended dozens of networking and collaboration events and believe those attributes can improve the event attendance and engagement for the Green Economy Society. As fundraising officer of “Raise UCL,” I have gained significant experience in teamwork, sponsorship, and event organising when trying to gather as many funds as possible for charity. Mostly, I intend to stand for election because I am truly passionate about this society. I admire all the work it has done throughout my time as a student and would love to contribute to its development.
