The 2026/2027 academic year will be my fifth as an active member of FilmSoc. I have been a contributing and friendly member of the society since 2021 and have observed when FilmSoc is at its best: when it is both a welcoming environment for film fans to enjoy screenings and socials, and when it operates as a mini-film school within UCL which could give LFS, NFTS or any practical film school a run for its money. We do have Chris Nolan as an alum after all!
2025/2026 has been one of the best years to be in FilmSoc in recent memory because of Louis' and the committee's attentiveness to members and professionalism in approaching term films and affiliates. Raw, the T1 film, was one of the best term films I've seen, and affiliates such as Coconut and Crush (directed by me!) prove that FilmSoc is teeming with talent! The workshops with industry professionals such as Matt Lewis and Mick Audsley were also utterly inspiring. It is these successes that I would continue to draw on as president.
So, off the back of my years of FilmSoc wisdom, my presidential manifesto is:
- Keep up the good work!
- Prioritise 'horizontal networking' through production member networking events
- Set up a writers' lab with weekly meetings
- Run small hands-on tutorials with the Blackmagic Pocket Cameras
I am a part time MA-Film student so would be able to run FilmSoc as a full-time president.
Lastly, I love Filmsoc and would be absolutely thrilled to see it continue to launch film careers and creative collaborations.
Let me start with a scene: A packed screening. Lights down.
And everyone in the room knows: Film & TV Society is operating at a NEW level this year.
That’s the standard I’m running to build!
Our society has amazing creative talent and real ambition. What we need now is tight direction, consistent execution, and the kind of leadership that turns scattered moments into sustained momentum.
Over the past year at UCL, I’ve worked across filming, editing, marketing, and society operations. I understand both sides of this society, the creative energy on set and the structure required behind the scenes to make things actually happen. And yes, we will continue Nolan’s legacy of cinematic ambition: productions that feel far beyond the typical student standard.
If elected, here’s exactly where I’ll focus:
- Raise the baseline of every production: Clear production pipelines, stronger pre-production discipline, and practical support so each project looks and feels more professional.
- Make our society the place serious creators gravitate to: Not by being exclusive, but by being consistently high-standard and creatively ambitious.
- Learn & Grow: Workshops that feed directly into productions, that feed into portfolios, that actually help your career progress.
- Deliver moments people remember: Showcases and collaborative projects that create real buzz across UCL.
If you want a year that feels more cinematic and more ambitious, I’d be honoured to have your vote.
Roll The Cameras - Let’s Raise The Standard!
Film Society is full of ambitious storytellers and film lovers; my goal is to ensure the opportunities around them are just as bold.
Our community spans all levels of availability and experience. To support this, I’ll launch a mentorship program connecting beginners with experienced peers, alumni, and industry professionals, while organising practical and theoretical workshops on equipment usage, filmmaking roles, and screenwriting to help everyone gain skills, build confidence, and participate both creatively and socially.
The studio can be difficult to navigate. I am currently rebuilding procedures with the support of the Media Department and will introduce a renewed booking system, termly studio tours, inductions, and updated video tutorials to increase structure. This craft is demanding enough as it is — accessing and maintaining the tools shouldn’t be.
Collaboration, visibility, and accessibility are key to our future. By forming a committed marketing team and expanding the promotion of Affiliate and Term films through our social media, podcast, and journal, I aim to forge a stronger pathway into the industry. With this increased reach, I will collaborate with external venues and other societies, leading to exciting joint events and productions featured in our new monthly newsletter, with live captions and audio descriptions.
Film is a beautiful medium meant for everyone. Let’s tear down the barriers that keep people from making and enjoying movies; anyone can cook!
for credibility, I love letterboxd xx
being in filmsoc has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time at ucl! especially because of all the incredible people I’ve been able to meet along the way!
I’ve had the best time being on committee this year as secretary, and would love to make a bigger difference by being your president <3
my past experience with the society includes:
- producing the london varsity broadcast the past 2 years
- attending TIFF to cover the festival for the filmsoc journal (like interviewing Stellan Skarsgard)
- being showrunner on a ucl talk show with Tim Bevan
- attending many qnas with industry professionals (thank you to the workshops officers xx)
- getting to be part of the incredible gendfilm team
- being bts photographer on countless term films
- outside of filmsoc, I’m heavily involved with artsucl, having directed 2 shows, and ap’d countless others.
my main goals if elected as president:
⭐️ being a friendly face around campus and at filmsoc events, and being available for feedback and new ideas (film studio renovations <3)
⭐️ focusing on career building opportunities, and ways to branch out and find creative partners and industry connections (even after graduation)
⭐️ introducing more opportunities for social members, including more film screenings, quizzes, (rather than the intensity of term films)
⭐️ streamlining the process for term films and affiliate films, to ensure they’re completed in a supportive environment, including technical training and development
