Sponsorship is one of the most important parts of any society. Strong connections with industry helps us with organising events and social activities in the sectors related to engineering. With the right connections we do not just get funding we create opportunities which benefit our members and the society.
Some people think that you have to be a linkedin warrior for this role. But do you actually? Cause sponsorship is much more than sending connection requests. It is about real negotiating, communication and building long-term connections.
As a first year representative at Chemical Engineering, I understand how important is too be sociable, communicable and responsible. Therefore, I am ready to apply all of those skills at Engineering Society by building up new strong bridges between Society and industry by getting funding for the development of the committee.
From my 3 years of Chemical Engineering, I know what it means to fight for opportunity. I have built experience and secured placements at some of the world's most prestigious engineering firms. I have learned the importance of industrial exposure for engineering careers and exactly what students need to stand out and get through the door.
I am motivated to see fellow engineers thrive, therefore, as Sponsorship Officer, I will leverage every existing and potential connection, every relationship, and every lesson from my professional journey to bring real, meaningful opportunities to our members.
Together, we will take UCLES to the next level. Vote Vincent.
Sponsors are the backbone of the Engineering Society's ability to operate and deliver meaningful programming by not just contributing financially, but through workshops, guest lectures, and real insight into industry expectations.
As Sponsorship Executive, I'll be committed to:
- Maintaining existing sponsor relationships, moving beyond financial contributions to ensure companies actively participate through workshops, panels, and site visits.
- Expanding our network with a particular focus on start-ups and smaller companies, giving students a broader picture beyond the traditional graduate scheme route.
- Helping connect students with industry names by informal networking events and introducing mentorship schemes that bring students and employers together, helping the society become a genuine springboard for early career development.
Like a lot of new students, I came in completely lost when it came to life after university. Corporate sponsored events changed that. Conversations with people working across energy, law, and tech helped me figure out what I want to do, what I don't, and how to get there. That clarity is hard to come by, and I want more students to find it especially now, students are navigating uncertainty around internships and graduate employment alone but these events provide clarity on hiring, insight into industry pathways, and the chance to build relationships with professionals early.
I've seen the impact of good sponsorship, and I want to be the one delivering it.
As a mechanical engineer myself who has a passion for engineering I believe I am fit for this role as I am currently a finance executive for Ingenium Society, a society that helps students start engineering projects under the guidance of lectures and more skilled students from engineering departments. As a finance executive I work closely with the treasurer and sponsorship team so I believe I have a good understanding of what is required and can fulfil these competently.
The Shell events, the career events, the touch grass events, and the Ball are what make Engineering Society loved by students like me. They build a sense of community while also exposing students to opportunities.
I see sponsorship as a responsibility to keep this greatness alive. It should fund what creates value for members, whether in the short term through social events or in the long term through career events.
I bring experience leading outreach and charity events. I also persuaded my school to start its first STEM society, which trained me to approach partners with clarity and to follow up with purpose.
As Sponsorship executive I will
• secure funding that protects affordability
• prioritise partners that offer student opportunities
• build relationships that last through clear delivery and consistent communication
