I am running for Head of Sponsorship because I want to help the Engineering Society continue delivering ambitious, high-quality events while strengthening the industry partnerships that make them possible. Having previously served as both Projects Executive and Events Executive in this society, I have first-hand experience of what it takes to organise events that engage students and what resources are needed to make them bigger and better. Through my involvement in societies and industry events, I have developed extensive networking experience, interacting with professionals ranging from engineers to C-suite executives. I have also held positions across several societies, giving me a strong understanding of the challenges involved in running student organisations and how best to present the value of a society to potential sponsors.
Additionally, I have built a broad network of industry connections across multiple sectors. This allows me to understand what different companies are looking for in partnerships, identify which organisations would be the best fit for the Engineering Society, and demonstrate how collaboration with our society can benefit both students and the companies involved.
I plan to focus on expanding our network of partners, strengthening long-term relationships with existing sponsors, and ensuring that partnerships provide real value to students by connecting them with industry insights and opportunities to set them up for their journey beyond university.
The Shell events, the career events, the touch grass events, and the Ball are what make Engineering Society loved by students like me. They build a sense of community while also exposing students to opportunities.
I see sponsorship as a responsibility to keep this greatness alive. It should fund what creates value for members, whether in the short term through social events or in the long term through career events.
I bring experience leading outreach and charity events. I also persuaded my school to start its first STEM society, which trained me to approach partners with clarity and to follow up with purpose.
As Head of Sponsorship I will
• secure funding that protects affordability
• prioritise partners that offer student opportunities
• build relationships that last through clear delivery and consistent communication
As an active member of UCLES, having learned directly from the current committee, I’ve gained first-hand insight into the range of opportunities offered. In particular, the numerous career-focused events have been key to furthering my understanding of the different paths open to engineering graduates. Sponsors play a pivotal role in this, with their support greatly facilitating our operations. Therefore, with my aspiration to grow the society so that many more can benefit, building stronger, lasting support will be crucial.
As Head of Sponsorship, I will strive to:
- Enhance sponsor diversity:
Utilising the stakeholder management skills gained as the CFO for a start-up in sixth form, I plan to leverage connections to secure a range of partnerships across several industries, ensuring greater representation of overlooked fields while building stronger, mutually beneficial relationships. Both ultimately ensure that we can continue to provide high-quality experiences.
- Bring forth new and exciting ideas:
I intend to work closely with alumni and our sponsors to facilitate mentorship opportunities and termly events such as fireside chats, offering alumni the informal opportunity to impart key advice, while allowing industry partners to engage directly with our members.
In short, UCLES has contributed massively to my university experience, and I would be honoured to lead the direction of our sponsorship initiatives.
Together, let's build relationships with lasting impact!
