I’m standing for the role of Welfare Officer for EduSoc this year as I really care about helping students feel supported and included. I hope to help keep EduSoc a safe, judgment-free space where people feel able to reach out when they are stressed or struggling, as I understand how difficult that can feel.
Earlier this year, I took on the role of Transition Mentor, where I had the chance to support students by signposting resources and just generally chatting about life and uni. As a BA Early Childhood Education student, I’ve also received significant training in safeguarding and welfare, which doesn’t just apply to children but to adults like us too!
During my time as Course Representative, I also tried my best to create spaces where people could share concerns more confidentially by setting up anonymous forms for students in my course, and I would love to introduce something similar within EduSoc. I would also hope to organise informal sessions where students can talk to us about any stresses or concerns without any pressure.
I hope I come across as approachable and friendly (my friends often call me ‘too nice’, so take that as you will!), and I’ve developed a good sense for noticing when someone might need support. I also speak three different languages (English, Mandarin, and Spanish), so if language ever makes reaching out feel a bit daunting, I hope that might make things easier. If elected, I would be committed to helping every member of EduSoc feel heard and supported.
