Our society has real potential and the right financial strategy is what unlocks it. I'm standing for Treasurer because I want our budget to do more than cover basics: I want it to help us run even better events, create more opportunities for members, and keep things affordable.
Responsible budgeting isn't just keeping numbers tidy - it's about making every pound work harder. If elected, I'll keep a member-accessible budget and put out a short Treasurer's Report each term so you can see what we spent, what we brought in, and what's coming next. I'll also introduce a live sponsorship and funding tracker, so the committee and members can follow external income in real time. I believe transparency matters because it builds trust between the committee and its members.
I'll push for more sponsorships and partnerships so we're not limited by a tight budget every term. Building relationships with firms and alumni means more resources to invest back into the society through subsidised tickets, better events, and new initiatives that add real value without passing the cost onto you.
I'm not standing to simply manage; I'm standing to grow. Vote for me, and I'll make sure our finances become the foundation for something bigger.
I’m applying because I would like to be part of the EFS committee and this role seems the most applicable for what I want to do post university.
I’m running for EFS Society Treasurer because I don’t see the role simply as someone who “keeps the books”,I see it as someone who figures out the society’s capital allocation strategy.
What differentiates me is that I’ve managed money in three completely different environments: teaching 190 families how to track every dollar they earned, analysing cost-efficiency under corporate constraints during my internship and allocating emergency funds during a pandemic where every decision had human consequences. I’ve built budgeting templates from scratch, conducted variance analysis when projections didn’t match reality, and reported transparently when accountability truly mattered.
But beyond technical skill,I think like an allocator. I naturally ask: what is the marginal return of this event? Does this speaker generate long-term member value? Is this sponsorship structured optimally? As Treasurer, I wouldn’t just record transactions ,I would design clear financial dashboards, forecast event cash flows, stress-test budgets against lower-than-expected turnout, and ensure every pound compounds in value for members.
The industry is defined by discipline, risk awareness, and strategic deployment.I bring that mindset.I want our finances to reflect the same precision and intentionality that we discuss in our workshops. That alignment between what we learn and how we operate is why I’m running.
Hi everyone! I am Eric, a current First-Year Representative in Client Relations at UCLAM, running for Treasurer of EFS.
Over the past year, I have held roles across three university societies - Bloomsbury Capital, UCLAM, and 180DC - as well as a high school society I founded and grew into the most attended club in my school's history. This has taught me how societies operate - how events are funded, sponsors are managed, and budgets work - giving me the operational literacy the role demands.
Beyond this, I have a track record of delivering measurable results. At Loaf Markets, I pitched to angel investors, secured a 6-figure pre-seed round, and led outreach that brought £250M of properties under management. I established my school's first Harvard MUN team, securing £1,000 in funding for 15 delegates. At UCLAM, I have co-organised speaker events with firms including Invesco, Man Group and VR Capital. I want to bring this same accountability and transparency to EFS.
As Treasurer, I will:
- Work to ensure no event is cancelled or delayed for logistical reasons, by tightening backend processes from speaker forms and room bookings to risk management
- Work to strengthen sponsor and client relationships, to bring in more funding and higher-profile events
- Manage funds with discipline and transparency so EFS consistently delivers the calibre of events our 2,500+ members deserve
If you want a Treasurer ready to lead and execute, vote Eric Zhou.
I am standing because I have really enjoyed being part of the UCL Economics and Finance Society as an Investment Banking Executive in the Finance Division this year, and I'd like to contribute more actively to its growth. Over this academic year, it has been immensely rewarding to see the organisation's reach and stature grow firsthand through events like the London Finance Conference and various coffee chat events with notable alumni, and I aspire to push the society's reach even further as a prospective Treasurer of the UCL Economics and Finance Society. Through helping out and organising certain tasks at these events, as well as through my coursework and involvement in other societies, I have developed strong organisational and collaborative skills. If elected, the core message I would like to convey as Treasurer is a structured, disciplined outlook on fiscal management, while making well-timed investments to accelerate the society's growth.
Over the years, I have demonstrated not only academic distinction but professional dexterity, consistently delivering results that speak credibly. I’m standing for the position of the UCL EFS's Treasurer because I genuinely enjoy bringing structure, accuracy, and financial discipline to organisations, and I want to use those strengths to support one of UCL’s most active and ambitious societies. I’ve managed financial operations where I improved data accuracy by 95%, resolved $130,000 in discrepancies, and streamlined reporting processes that made decision‑making faster and more reliable. These experiences taught me how to handle responsibility, maintain transparent records, and keep systems running smoothly.
Beyond my finance experience, I’ve held leadership roles, including serving as the General Coordinator of Excel Minds, where I oversaw over 250 Executive teams, managed logistics, and ensured projects were delivered on time. This strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, organise people and resources, and stay accountable for outcomes, all essential qualities for a Treasurer.
I’m motivated to bring this amalgam of financial rigour and leadership experience to the Economics and Finance Society. I want to help the committee deliver high‑quality events, manage budgets responsibly, and ensure the society’s finances remain transparent, compliant, and aligned with its goals. I’m committed, reliable, and ready to contribute to a successful year for the society.
I am standing because I want the Society to be a place where students genuinely sharpen how they think, not just attend events. Too often, discussions around economics and finance stay theoretical. I want us to engage directly with what is happening in markets and policy right now, and create more opportunities for debate, skill-building and practical exposure. As someone studying Statistics, Economics and Finance, I care deeply about applied thinking, and I would work to ensure our events are relevant, challenging and genuinely useful for members.
I am running for EFS Treasurer because after attending so many of the society’s events this year, I’ve gained a strong understanding of the scale, ambition and financial discipline required to run EFS effectively. Engaging closely with our panels, workshops and networking sessions has shown me the importance of careful budgeting, transparent decision-making and funding strategies that genuinely prioritise member value. My experience managing budgets, overseeing cash handling and coordinating multi-event fundraising initiatives has equipped me with the financial rigour and operational reliability essential for this role. As a Team Lead for large charitable programmes, I helped raise over €25,000 through year-round events, preparing reconciliations, managing procurement and ensuring full accountability. Combined with my internship experience in finance where I analysed credit risk, prepared simulations and reviewed compliance documentation I bring strong quantitative skills and a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to financial management. As Treasurer, I aim to strengthen EFS’s budgeting processes, secure more sponsorship opportunities, and allocate resources in a way that elevates event quality while ensuring long-term financial sustainability. My goal is to ensure every pound spent directly enhances student experience and contributes to a more impactful, accessible and professionally empowering EFS.
