Yahali Pessach

Hi everyone!

I'm Yahali, a current Global Markets Executive at the EFS. I study Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Data Science, and I'm running for Director of Economics because I believe economics only makes sense when you understand what surrounds it.

Too often, our events feel disconnected from what we're actually studying. As Director, I want to change that:

  • Fireside chats with purpose: targeting policymakers, central bankers, and researchers whose work you're already encountering in your modules, bringing your lectures to life.
  • Economic policy debates: structured, student-led discussions on live issues, from fiscal policy to the economics of AI, where you make the argument.
  • Consulting workshops: demystifying economic consulting as a career, with practitioners walking through real briefs and methodologies.
  • Cross-society programming: partnering with politics, tech, and data science groups to run events that reflect how economics actually operates in the real world.
  • A live economics tracker: a termly session where we dissect one major real-world economic event together, from data to decision, as it unfolds.

EFS already sets an incredibly high bar. My goal is to make the Economics division feel like the intellectual heartbeat of that, where what you learn in the room on a Tuesday evening genuinely sharpens how you think in a lecture on Wednesday morning.

Let's build an Economics division that makes your degree richer.

Vote Yahali!

Shreyas Veturi

Serving as an Economics Executive this year has shown me what really makes an event impactful. It is not just about securing a big name, but about thoughtful framing, strong turnout, and discussions that stay with people after they leave the room.

Outside EFS, I have led initiatives that required persistence and organisation. At school, I brought in the Indian High Commissioner to speak about India’s rise to becoming the world’s fifth-largest economy, which involved months of outreach, coordination and careful positioning. At UCL, through Bloomsbury Startup Academy, I helped bring in founders such as Sean Cook, CEO of Tea, and supported the running of weekly workshops and speaker sessions. I understand what it takes behind the scenes to make ambitious events happen.

As Economics Director, I want to raise the ambition of our division. I plan to secure more high-profile speakers in public policy and central banking, and to collaborate closely with the Economists’ Society to host larger, joint flagship events that expand our reach and intellectual depth.

I want EFS Economics to be the place students turn to for serious, timely conversations beyond the lecture hall.

I’m standing because Economics should be engaging, relevant, and intellectually challenging. As Director of Economics, I want to bridge theory with real-world application through focused policy debates, research spotlights, and discussions on pressing global issues. From behavioural economics to inflation, public policy, and geopolitical risk, our society should explore how economic ideas shape real decisions and real outcomes. I want to create a space where students can think critically, question assumptions, and engage with ideas beyond the lecture hall. By collaborating with academics, alumni, and industry professionals, we can raise the intellectual standard of our events while keeping them accessible to all levels of experience. My goal is clear: to position our society as the centre of rigorous, relevant economic discussion on campus.

Christina Liu

Hi, I’m Christina, a first-year Geography and Economics student at UCL. I enjoy trying new things, from horse riding and boxing, even when I wobble, to learning guitar, and I believe curiosity and determination make university life meaningful. In high school, I was President of the Economics Society, the largest academic society in my school, where I organised weekly meetings, taught basic economic concepts, and planned activities to make economics feel less intimidating and more engaging. This experience showed me that I enjoy helping people understand subjects they once found confusing.

I’m running for Director of Economics in EFS because it’s not just a career society, but a community where students explore economics and finance together through speakers, workshops and mentorship. These opportunities build confidence and open up future possibilities. I want to help make economics feel relevant, not only for exams, but for understanding world events, businesses, and decision-making, and accessible to anyone who is curious.

If selected, I would organise interactive academic activities that complement EFS’s career events, such as concept workshops, real-world case discussions, peer-led study sessions, and themed career panels. I’d work closely with the committee to ensure events are well structured, well communicated, and welcoming to all levels. My goal is for members to leave feeling informed, confident, and empowered to engage with economics beyond the classroom.
