I am standing for Social Secretary because I believe badminton should be more than just a sport. It should be a space where everyone feels welcome, relaxed and connected. Since joining the club, I’ve seen how much fun the game can be when the atmosphere is friendly and inclusive, and I’d love to help build more of that. For me, some of the best moments in the club have come from casual rallies, switching partners and simply enjoying the game without pressure. I would love to help create more of that atmosphere for everyone.

As Social Secretary, I want to organise weekly social sessions that are structured enough to keep games flowing, but relaxed enough for people of all abilities to enjoy. Since court time is limited, fairness is especially important. I will implement structured rotations and organised sign-ups to ensure equal playtime and allow as many members as possible to participate each week.

I also hope to introduce small social touches, such as themed sessions, lucky-dip doubles to help people mix, and beginner-friendly courts so new members feel comfortable joining in. My aim is not to make the club more competitive, but more connected. Above all, I want badminton to be something people genuinely look forward to each week — a place to unwind, meet new people and feel included. If elected, I will be committed to making our club welcoming, organised and truly social for everyone.

I’m standing for Social Secretary because badminton shouldn’t just be about matches and training. It should also be about the community. I’d love to organise relaxed, fun socials where everyone in the society can get to know each other better. There should also be a few socials which involve competitive members as well as social members.

I’m standing for Social Secretary because weekly badminton sessions are a great way for members to stay active, enjoy the sport, and meet others in the club. For many members who are not playing competitively, these sessions provide a relaxed and welcoming environment where people can improve their skills, try out a new sport, or simply come along for some exercise and to socialise with others who enjoy badminton.

As Social Secretary, I would love to help make these weekly sessions enjoyable, well-organised, and accessible to everyone who attends. Alongside the regular social badminton sessions, I would also be interested in organising beginner-friendly tournaments for members who enjoy a bit of competition but may not be part of the competitive team. These events could give more members the opportunity to challenge themselves while still keeping the atmosphere fun, inclusive, and supportive.

Overall, I would love the opportunity to contribute to the club and help make the social side of badminton even more enjoyable for everyone. I would work closely with the rest of the committee to ensure sessions run smoothly and that everyone feels welcome. I would also be open to feedback from members and happy to hear suggestions for new ideas or improvements so that the club continues to reflect what people enjoy and want to see.

Hi,

I'm Tan and I'm currently a second-year student but have been part of the society since I joined UCL. If you have attended the sessions at Somer's Town, then you might've seen me chatting around, and if so, you now know how active I am within the society. If you have asked a question within the group chat about rejections or signing up, I would have most likely answered some of them.

Why am I answering those questions even though I'm not a committee member?

Because I know how annoying it is to be left hanging, and I believe everyone deserves clarity along with a chance to play.

Even though the allocations have improved this year, I believe more can be done. More sessions, more courts, and more people to socialize with. Badminton is a social sport after all, right?

If you've been annoyed with minor inconsistencies within the society over the past year and would love to play more, please do vote for me as one of your Social Secretaries.

Thank you!

I’m running for Social Secretary.I love badminton, with strong communication skills and the ability to interact with different groups. In high school, I was captain of the school badminton team and a member of the student union. I often contacted external teams for badminton exchanges with our team, and also helped organize and promote school events and social activities.

If elected, I’ll focus on three key areas:

  1. Accessible and inclusive social activitiesDesign a series of regular activities to attract players of all levels, balancing competitiveness and fun.
  2. Diversity and participationLaunch themed social events, casual competitions and mixed-team activities to keep everyone engaged and strengthen connections.
  3. Clear communication and transparencyBoost participation with standardized promotion and feedback mechanisms, and keep optimizing activities continuously.

I’m organized, proactive and friendly, value teamwork, and will work closely with the captain and committee members to ensure social activities support the club’s overall goals.

My goal’s simple: build a vibe where everyone feels connected, supported, and proud to be part of the UCL Badminton Club.
