Yan Tat Loo

After three years with UCL Badminton Club, including serving as President during the 2024–25 season where we achieved Club of the Year, this club has become a place I truly call home. I am standing again to give back to a community that shaped my university experience and to continue improving opportunities for all members. I will remain approachable, actively listen to feedback, and ensure members’ voices directly inform how the club develops.

My vision focuses on THREE key priorities:

(1) Accessibility & Courts
Court access remains our biggest challenge. I will continue working with TeamUCL to secure more court allocation while actively sourcing alternative venues closer to campus. My aim is to make badminton more accessible and simplify booking so sessions are clearer and easier to join.

(2) Competitive Excellence
UCL Badminton is one of the strongest teams in the southern UK. I will work closely with the captains to strengthen coordination, improve team bonding, and explore opportunities for competitive members to deliver structured coaching sessions for social members who wish to improve.

(3) Community & Member Experience
I will empower an expanded social team (up to 6 social secs), clearly separate welfare and social roles. I will explore options allowing friends to sign up for the same sessions, making participation more welcoming. The goal is a club where every member feels supported, included, and proud to belong.

Rachel Wang

Hi! My name is Rachel, and I am a first-year Biomedical Engineering student and a first-team player for UCL Badminton. Representing the club at its highest competitive level has given me a clear understanding of the standards we are capable of, and the standards we should consistently uphold. I am applying for President not simply to maintain the club, but to elevate it and make us stand out.

I want intense training sessions, fun social sessions, strong and consistent performances, and, a club culture that feels ambitious but welcoming. Most importantly, I would lead with energy, organisation and visibility. I will set clear standards, strengthen communication within the committee, and ensure no one feels overlooked. I also want to introduce more socials too, whether that’s bigger themed socials, more integrated team bonding, or post-fixture traditions.

My aim is to bring everyone together, so people feel proud to represent the club, and are proud of how we compete and how we connect. Can’t wait for another great year as part of UCL Badminton!

Junyou Zhang

I want to be President of the Badminton Club because I care about creating a welcoming environment that supports both our competitive players and our social members. The club plays an important role in bringing people together, and I want to make sure everyone — regardless of ability or experience — feels included and able to enjoy badminton.

As President, I understand that I would have full oversight of the club and ultimate responsibility for its activities, events, and financial matters. I am prepared to take on this responsibility by staying organised, planning ahead, and ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of all members.

The President is also the primary point of contact between the club and the Student Union. I would represent the club professionally, communicate clearly, and make sure members’ interests are reflected in decisions.
