Hi everyone, I am Zoe and I am running for President. I have loved being part of APAC Law Society and attending all the events this year. I hope to lead this society and run even more events this coming year.
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
As Director of Public Relations for a Model United Nations conference, I led publicity strategy, managed outreach to schools and sponsors, and supervised a PR team to ensure timely delivery of promotions. This experience is directly relevant to expanding the Society’s visibility, strengthening external partnerships and securing sponsorship.
As Chair and Student Coach of an MUN Team, I chaired and trained delegates and prepared teams for external conferences. This equips me to moderate panels, host professional events and ensure discussions are structured and purposeful.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
As President, I hope to build a more engaging environment for all members. My initiatives include:
- Strengthening ties and partnerships with law firms and chambers in the APAC area and inviting speakers with strong Asia-Pacific exposure to speak at panels.
- Increase cultural and networking events such as events and pub quizzes to strengthen community engagement.
- Introduce an APAC-focused competitions stream centered on cross-border practice and Asia-Pacific market developments.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Being a newly created society, I see an immense untapped potential within APAC LawSoc, and will commit the time, resources, and energy needed to solidify the society as a go-to for UCL students to broaden their knowledge and network into the APAC region. As someone who sees their future career operating within Asia-Pacific, I believe that leading this society will be one of the most impactful ways that I can bring awareness towards the growing opportunities throughout the region.
In an increasingly interconnected world, I envision this society as a hub for forming relationships within Asia-Pacific. Through their events, I saw how APAC LawSoc bridged the gap between students and the wider APAC legal community. Noticing more and more Asia-Pacific representation within UCL, I am confident that this society will form a strong community that will extend far beyond our time at university.
As President, I hope to be able to improve upon the current framework. This includes:
- Increasing marketing in hopes of widening the demographic of members to extend beyond UCL.
- Strengthening the APAC LawSoc community through socials aimed at building relationships (e.g. picnics, hikes, art workshops, charity/volunteering, etc.)
- Continue to carry out termly events (i.e. panels, fireside chats, and networking events)
All things said, I am ready to be challenged by leading a society at a university level and look forward to seeing how this experience will shape my growth as an individual.
Asia-Pacific Law Society represents the interests of the Global South, something which I am very passionate about. The society needs someone who not only understands the vision of the society but is also capable of growing it, identifying its strengths and addressing its weaknesses and building on its immense potential.
As the President, I would increase people’s engagement with society by hosting a ‘Start the year with APAC’ series - a month of flagship events including talks, games nights, debates, and “My Hot Take” discussions. These events will define our identity, boost visibility, and strengthen members’ connection to the society from day one.
Beyond campus, I aim to build meaningful connections with law firms in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore and beyond, creating pathways for internships and mentorship. Students returning home during breaks should have real opportunities to engage with firms and trainees they’ve interacted with through APAC, whether online or in person.
Having held positions of authority and leadership previously, I can reconcile conflicting ideas that result in successful projects, ensure coordination and communication among the committee members and turn vision into execution. Let’s not just grow APAC, let’s make it the leading voice of the Global South on campus. APAC should feel like more than a society — it should feel like a community, a network, and a platform for real opportunity.
