Election post

Status
Elected
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Throughout my time I have developed these opportunites that I believe align with this position:

  • Finance & Fundraising Officer – Managed budgets and organised fundraising events during my time at sixth form
  • Housing research experience – Contributed to analysing accommodation affordability and developing housing policy ideas.
  • UCL East Shuttle Bus Driver – Spoke to you guys during daily commutes, gaining direct insight into student housing concerns.
  • Retail work alongside studies – Balanced part-time work with university, building resilience, time management, and a strong work ethic
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If voted in, this is what I will achieve by the end of my term:

  • Reinvest accommodation profits directly into improving housing quality, maintenance, and student living conditions.
  • Reform the complaints system so housing issues are resolved faster with clear response timelines.
  • Introduce a UCL housing policy with affordability targets (aiming for 30% affordable accommodation).
  • Campaign for fair rents, including exploring a temporary rent freeze and linking increases to maintenance loans.
  • Create a tenancy deposit loan scheme to support low-income students struggling with deposits or rent in advance.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Housing has been the toughest part of my time at UCL. As a first-generation home whose parent's didn't meet the gurantor requirement, I experienced first hand how expensive and complicated the system can be. That experience lit a fire in me. I will push relentlessly for fairer rents, better housing standards and real choices for students. I won't acceept excuses and will hold the university to account until students get the housing they deserve.

UCL is celebrating its 200th birthday in 2026. What do you think UCL will look like in 200 years time?

If trends continue, housing will be even more expensive and inequality in London will be greater than ever in next 200 years! The role of the Students' Union will become even more important in pushing university to remain accessible and affordable.

If UCL wants to see another 200 years the university I will ensure that:

  • Holding the university acountable when it misses affordability and access targets
  • Protecting access to education so talented students are not priced out of London
  • Challenging rising acommodation costs and pushing fairer polices
