Election post

As Climate Action Society members, we have been a part of building UCL’s sustainability framework, developing the Environmental Assembly and the SU Sustainability Council.
Our most recent success was the SU’s approval of a Fossil Free Careers policy. We have worked together a lot and hope to achieve more by sharing the responsibilities of this role!
Pauline has been treasurer for two climate-related societies; fundraising and organising social events and campaigns. As Hall Community Officer and course rep, Oskar has represented students’ accommodation rights and organised various social events.
Transport
- Continue to negotiate reduced fare Eurostar tickets for London students
- Reduce staff and student flights where possible, continuing our work with Flight Free UCL
Finance
- Switch UCL and Student Union away from Barclays Bank, which invests a lot in fossil fuels
- Develop campaign to encourage students to bank with green banks
Food
- Reduce food waste at UCL student cafes - make food 50% off in the last hour
- Support and expand UCL sustainable food initiatives, such as PlanetPoints
Education
- Implement the Fossil Free Careers policy in the fairest way possible
- Create more sustainability-related modules
As active students in sustainability groups, we are genuinely committed to making UCL more sustainable. We already understand UCL’s systems and have worked with relevant sustainability groups and people.
Honestly, whether we are elected or not, we will continue to work on sustainability initiatives, as we have done with the current sustainability officer. If elected we will streamline and amplify sustainability efforts both at the university and national level.
We are already on track to raise environmental standards at UCL, and this position would enable us to create even more change next year!
