What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I will not only listen to students' needs but also provide them with essential information and support they may not be aware of. I understand the stress of deadlines, publication pressure, and academic isolation, and I hope to help students access resources, seek guidance from and beyond supervisors, build academic and industrial connections. I want to bridge the gap between students and support services, ensuring a well-informed research community by creating accessible support systems, building community connections, advocating for inclusive policies, and promoting mental health awareness.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

As a PhD student and three-year experience as a Welcome Ambassador, I've gained firsthand experience navigating research challenges and problem-solving abilities to support diverse students, including publication processes, handling editor/reviewer questions, organizing community-building events, connecting students with appropriate support services. I can help research students plan their journey by demonstrating how to build mentorship networks within and beyond supervisors and create industry connections that open doors to opportunities beyond academia, also help to keep mentally healthy.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

As a female researcher and racial minority, I know the unique challenges we face in academia. I've navigated publication pressures, isolation, and systemic barriers while building the skills to overcome them. I'll use my experience to create accessible support systems tailored to our community's needs. I hope I could bridge the gap between students and support services, make connections and expand your opportunities to ensure you don't face these challenges alone. Vote for me to transform our research environment into one where everyone, especially underrepresented students, can truly thrive.
