I believe that I have many of the skills and qualities required to serve in this position and I would like to take this opportunity to lay them out for you here!
Experience:
- Firstly, I am currently the Founder and President of Youth Fundraisers UCL a student-led volunteering project I started this academic year.
- I have volunteered through UCL at the Benjamin Franklin House as a tour guide,
- Finally, I have experience working within the Union already as this year I was the Hall Community Officer for Schafer House. This meant I attended policy zones and had experience with policy zones.
If elected, there are two elements of volunteering at UCL that I would concentrate on!
1. Inclusion: No matter what your interests or experiences I want all to feel included and I believe this can be done through a broader focus on diversity within each volunteering programme as well as ensuring there is enough information and help for those attempting to Volunteer.
2. Fun: I want to volunteer at UCL to be a hugely enjoyable atmosphere where those volunteering can become one big community thus I would love to start a volunteer network to emphasise this community,
During the last year, I have had an amazing time as part of UCL's volunteering service and therefore I want to give this same experience to as many people as I possibly can! Thus, it would truly be an honour to be your Volunteering Officer and I promise I will do everything I can to ensure it will be the best year ever for UCL volunteers.
I will be your link between all Student Volunteers, the Volunteering service and the Union and ensure that all your concerns or desires can be addressed. Thank you so much for taking the time to vote, and I wish all my fellow contestants good luck!
If elected, some of my niche plans are:
- ‘Adopt a Grandfriend’ Program: Pair students with elderly residents in the community to exchange letters, stories, or virtual conversations, fostering intergenerational connections.
- ‘Dinner in the Dark’ Experiences: Host sensory awareness events where participants dine in complete darkness, guided by visually impaired volunteers, to raise awareness and funds for visual impairment charities.
- ‘Paws for a Cause’ Initiative: for animal welfare.
- ‘Ideas for Impact’ Think Tank: A forum for students to brainstorm and develop actionable volunteering plans.
Hi everyone! I’m Sejal. As an experienced volunteer in many charities, I have led multiple plantation drives, fundraising activities, blood and clothing banks, and have implemented projects like GrandFriend. Over the past few years, volunteering my services as a tutor to 60+ underprivileged girls from secondary and primary levels made me realise that there is so much good that you can do in society. Motivating over 30 of these girls to be first-generation high school students is something that I take pride in. It’s not just about preaching volunteering, it’s about practising it!
Let’s just not preach volunteering, Let’s practice it! My goal is to create a more connected, informed, and proactive volunteering community at UCL. It’s all about how we as privileged UCL students can do our bit to give back to the society which has given us so much, which is responsible for where we are today, which is responsible for us being here at UCL. By standing in this election, I believe I’m doing my bit of an effort for a better society, now it’s time for you to do your bit of an effort and VOTE FOR ME!
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I really appreciate it!
Volunteering has been an integral part of my life, from experiences in high school to being a community volunteer in university, I learned to balance commitments and cultivate organisational skills, enabling effective task management. My journey has exposed me to instances of leadership, where I learned the importance of leading with empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. I am committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces for all, driven by a genuine desire to serve others, and I firmly believe that creating such spaces starts with actively listening to those I engage with.
If elected as Volunteer Officer, my goal is to empower our student community to become agents of positive change. To achieve this, I am committed to enhancing the accessibility, diversity, and impact of the volunteer programs. This includes expanding our outreach efforts to engage a broader spectrum of students, developing innovative initiatives that address emerging societal needs, and fostering a culture of collaboration and support among volunteers. I believe we can harness the collective energy of our student body to create meaningful change that echoes beyond our campus.
By voting for me, you're entrusting me with the responsibility to represent your voices, values, and aspirations within our community. With the depth of experience, skills, and personal qualities I bring to this role, I am committed to fostering inclusivity and empowerment while coordinating complex initiatives with empathy and resilience. Together, let's embark on a journey of service, compassion, and positive change. Your support is greatly appreciated, and with it, we can make a real difference in our community and beyond our campus. Thank you for considering my candidacy.
