Hey Boat club!

I want to be Cox Captain next year! Why? RUMSBC constitutes 90% of my uni life, and I want to continue to give back to the club and help not only get us those medals, but also make the club enjoyable, and productive for all!

We all know, that the limiting factor for getting crews out - bar some dodgy footplates - is the number of coxes. Coxes help keep both the boat, and the crew safe; so with confident and trained coxes, the club will already be in a better place.

From my own training experience as a Cox, I did learn things the hard way - several buoys being hit, and coming back from senior outings with crippling anxiety of fears that I have ruined their outing, where I struggled a lot.

But this year, I have found my love for coxing, and the love I have for teaching. As a rower, I also value the time that hybrid coxes give to the club - but this is something that needs to be respected. How? With more coxes.

Introducing coxing bootcamp. I would love to implement a two-day weekend training camp for existing and new coxes, followed by more weekends over the summer. The focus being sharing knowledge, learning more about the river and most importantly - making sure that a cox knows that they are appreciated, respected, and feel confident. I have already been scouting for coxes, and will push a huge recruitment drive, with potential prizes!

My main aim for this year is to have a (large) group of happy, confident coxes. Happy coxes = more crews = more medals.
