As an enthusiast for female empowerment, I hope I will be able to use this platform to organise more events or forums with speakers or guests that are established in the female empowerment scene. I would love to be able to do more in the student union and create more platforms and opportunities to hear from the students about their needs, concerns and even wants in their academic term. If there's one thing I want to achieve if I do have the opportunity in this role, I would want the women students' network to represent and serve the women, be the support system in a louder and bolder way.
My friends describe me as an empathetic, bold and independent women and that is exactly what I always strive to be. My soft skills would definitely be my character and how I love to be the listener but a leader with will as well. I have had internship experience which allows me to have the hard skills of organising and planning events, reaching out and collaborating for partnerships. Having leaderships position in the past also trained me to be empathetic and finding ways to hear from the student body to improve the conditions their facing which is something I want to bring in this role.
I grew up in an all-girls school for the bulk of my school years and that was the best and most memorable part of my childhood. I loved how girls when put together, can be so empowering and strong, building on each other's strength and complimenting the weaknesses. That is what I hope to be able to create, such an environment in the women students' network, a safe and encouraging haven for women in the school. I would love to hear and work on things that would provide support for the women and be a representation for women, despite all differences, being able to celebrate ourselves as women!
The women's network at UCL has an essential role in representing and promoting the interests of 68% of UCL's students, and I hope to continue on the success of previous Secretaries in the Network in ensuring that the Network is active and fully supportive of all female-identifying students at UCL. I hope to work more to promote key dates and events such as International Women's Day, and to work with Women's societies at UCL to promote events for careers and volunteering. UCL has a great community of women and I would help to harness this for the success of all.
I have seen the value of a strong community of women firsthand through having the honour of leading the UCL Lacrosse Club this year. The teamwork that women across the club have demonstrated, and the support that they have given to other club members have been incredible to see, and I hope to carry this energy into the Women's Network as Network Secretary. I am also involved outside of university in the All Party Parliamentary Group for Women in Work, and I hope to bring some of the inspiration I have seen from this into the Women's Network.
In short, I believe in supporting all UCL students who identify as women in their time at UCL and beyond into the wider world, and I would like to expand the role of the Women's Network in the life of the average women student at UCL. I also believe that I have the drive, commitment and organisation to execute this role well, and I would enjoy supporting other members of the Network to deliver the best for all women at UCL. Vote Clementine Manning for Women's Network Secretary on the 13th-17th of March and please feel free to email me if you have any further questions at [email protected]
I aim to advocate for women's rights by working with other members of the Women's Network to identify areas where gender inequality is still present and address these issues. I will collaborate with other student groups to promote gender equality and raise awareness about important issues affecting women. I strive to promote inclusivity and create a safe and supportive space for all women through fostering an environment where women feel comfortable speaking up about their experiences and concerns, and providing resources for those who may be struggling.
I bring to the table not just strong communication, advocacy, and organisational skills, but also a deep-seated passion for the cause. I firmly believe that every woman has a unique voice and perspective that deserves to be heard, and I am committed to creating a community where every woman feels seen and valued. With my interpersonal skills and unwavering commitment, I am confident that I have what it takes to excel in this role and create positive change on campus.
As a woman who has faced numerous challenges and obstacles in academic settings, my passion for promoting gender equality and advocating for women's rights runs deep. As the Women's Network Secretary, I promise to put my heart into this role, working tirelessly to create a welcoming and inclusive community where every woman can thrive. I am committed to using my voice to amplify the voices of marginalised women. By voting for me, students can trust that they are casting their vote for someone who is not just competent and capable but is also fuelled by a genuine passion for the cause.
