Candidates

Thanusan Kirubaharan

I would like to organise events such as meet and greets, games nights and movie nights for people to socialise. I would also like to raise awareness for days such as Maaverar Naal to commemerate the fallen heroes of Tamil Eelam and organise workshops such as Gaana dance for people to partake in. On top of this, I would like to encourage something that UCL Tamils would be known for similar to how KCL has kings of gaana so that UCL Tamil Society isn’t just secluded to UCL students and is open to students from other universities.

Asvin Gunesan

My name’s Asvin and I’m currently a first year. I want to be Ucl Tsoc’s head of events so I can organise and execute big and better events hosted by Ucl. This year I’ve probably been to more events than lectures and thus have a good experience with which events appeal the most to everyone else. Having known friends in couple unis tsoc, I’ve helped them in preparation of events and have a rough idea of how it’s run and what’s needed.
If I’m chosen for head of events I’ll try bring back the ucl tsoc events and promote it to have the appeal that the other uni tsoc events have. Having been banned for 2 years Ucl tsoc events aren’t known as the other events that have been running for year after year so as head of event I would try to reintroduce Ucl tsoc events and promote it to the biggest and the best.

Karthig Thillaivasan

Having been Media Officer for Tsoc this year, I have experience in promoting events and understand event organisation. As Head of Events, I want to take the commitment and legacy of such events to the next level by utilising my event planning experience to work with the main committee and help smoothly organise more enticing Tsoc events, such as Karaoke/Open Mic night, Movie Night, Pub Crawl, Bowling Night etc. I am very passionate about events organisation especially, as I have some experience both as events worker and as a planner. I am also interested to start a variety showcase event, like Mega Maalai and I believe our society has the capacity to do that. One of my greatest skills is hard work and dedication- I have experience in both sorting out event details and venues, and communicating with people to ensure smooth running. Also as a music artist, I have experience in working under pressure on the day of events such as organising props and day arrangements for variety showcase events, that may prove useful in organising performance equipment and setting up seating arrangement for Panithuli and setting up for DJ etc. for both Panithuli and Dandanakka, as well as planning games for smaller events. Overall, I want to raise awareness of Tsoc throughout UCL through organising fun events and nurture a growing togetherness amongst the many interested in Tamil culture and its various manifestations, and celebrate a shared heritage rooted in a rich language.
