Meerah Perinpanathan

Hi, my name is Meerah and I would like to nominate myself for the charity representative position. I am confident that I have the ability to get everyone involved and be empathetic. Over the years, I've participated in and organised various activities, including bake sales and talent shows during charity week at my previous school. MegaMalai is one of the many shows I have taken part in that raise money for charities. The proceeds from these shows are donated to a variety of charities especially ones that support people in Sri Lanka. I wish to focus on spreading awareness about the conditions back home and how we can help. Some events that could be put in place are movie nights and fashion shows which display our culture and how it has changed over time. We could also host a treasure hunt on campus, maybe at the beginning of the year, allowing people to socialise and feel more at ease. For those interested in sports, I would push to host a rounders match with all the admission prices for these events donated to charity.

Yadav Pirapakaran

Hello I’m Yadav, I’m nominating myself for the Charity Representative position as the act of helping others or providing a service to achieve something positive is a very noticeable characteristic of mine.  I fulfilled my passion and showed my support for numerous charitable organisations like Oxfam and Save the Children by volunteering. One that really impacted me was aiding and talking to families who had been affected by the 2004 tsunami back in Sri Lanka, listening to their individual stories was very touching. Next year I would like to raise money for the society’s choice of charity and personally would like to organise charity friendly football matches, movie nights and bake offs. The money raised from this would help those in need back home. I’m sure I have the potential to carry out related tasks to the highest level hence why I believe I should be the next Charity Rep.

Kannan Maheswaran

Charity is an integral part of Tamil culture overseas, giving back to those who came before us. There
are many issues still going on where we can do something to make a difference. Being a member of
UCL Tamil society, with a large reach-we need to raise awareness about these issues,
especially for those who don’t know, and charity is a significantly overlooked sector. There are many
ways we can do charity work to help our Tamil community. The main ideas are holding events such
as games nights with donations to charities, and different fundraisers especially linked with sports
societies as it would be very fun. I have done some charity work with charities- to raise money for
great causes. Collaborating with amazing charities such as Nandri which helps to empower mothers
especially from impoverished regions would help too. Not only monetary value, but also educating
the youth on problems going on in Tamil Nadu and Eelam. Giving them the tools, to go out and make
a change for the betterment of the Tamil community. This would also trickle down and impact the
next generation on a large scale. Doing charity events allows increased engagement with our society
bringing us closer as a whole. I would use this role to expand our reach and try and make substantial
progression towards greatness of Tamils, hopefully also trying to find grants and other money to funnel support.I believe my previous experience and drive for the cause would make me a
perfect fit for this
