We all know how central RUMS Events have been at some point throughout our med-school life. Whether it is dressing up for a ball or donning your scrubs for a scrubs party, most of us have been there.
As part of the Events Subcommittee this year, I had the privilege to work collaboratively to organise some fantastic events. As the General Secretary for RUMS, I intend to uphold open and clear communication to ensure that students remain informed of ongoing projects and plans.
If elected, I would strive to:
- Diversify the Events Calendar.
- Focus on non-formal activities. The popularity of last year's Rounders in Hampstead event demonstrated a significant demand for daytime socials.
- Introduce other game-show events, following the successful return of RUMS Take Me Out.
- Collaborate with the Welfare and Equity Team
- Collect feedback from all cohorts and implement inclusive changes to the Calendar.
- To gather input from individuals who face barriers to attending events.
- Utilise social media or arrange in-person drop-in sessions at the start of the year to provide a platform to voice your concerns/ suggestions.
- Enhance transparency regarding the accessibility of events
- Emphasise the availability of existing funding and support to ensure inclusivity for all attendees.
I hope to be a friendly face that you can approach for ideas, support, or for both, and will always be welcoming to any suggestions from you!

Hey! I'm Shivang, and I'm excited to be running for Events VP. Attending medical school can be stressful (we all know it), and RUMS events can provide a much-needed break from that Anki grind. Being part of the events subcommittee gave me a good insight the committee, and if elected for events VP, I hope to make some positive changes:
- More Diversity & Inclusivity
I found RUMS events to be a chance to show off my terrible dance moves and form some great friendships. Equally, I know it can be quite a daunting and overwhelming experience, and people can sometimes feel out of place. A priority for me would be making sure everyone feels welcome and represented, by having a more diverse and cultural range of events that cater to the interests of our diverse cohort (even if you don't drink or you commute), so everyone feels at home.
- Consistent events
I recognise that there is a reduced focus for the later years at medical school, and I hope to create a continuity of events throughout the years (both pre-clinical and clinical) to promote engagement, with both the cohort and RUMS.
- Receptive to feedback
There is always something to be done better and perhaps my biggest hope would be listening and being receptive to your feedback, so we can improve on aspects we miss out as a committee.
Lastly, if there's anything I want to achieve as events VP, it is to be a friendly face and be approachable; so if you have any questions feel free to reach out :)
