Hello! I'm Alice and I am currently a 1st year geography student here at UCL. I play the cello in the Symphony Orchestra and the String Orchestra and have absolutely loved the first two terms of music society! The friends and experience I have had has really been the centre of my time at UCL so far so I would love to give back and be a part of this even more. Not only do I have experience in running ensembles, but I would love to expand this experience to a full symphony orchestra. I have particularly enjoyed being a part of the concerts so far, and would enjoy organising these for everyone!

I would also love to plan more social opportunities (especially socials involving food obviously!) as this is something I found was really important in making my time as enjoyable and social as possible, as well has tightening the community feel.

If all of this is something you would like to see in music society, a vote would be much appreciated (and yes, I am signing up for dragging the timpani to JBR every Monday so take that into account!). Thank you!

Akshay Patel

Having enjoyed being part of the UCL Symphony Orchestra for 2 years, I have decided to run for orchestra manager. This would be more of a contract renewal/extension as I have been in the role since the start of term 2.

As a result, I am already well experienced in lugging timpani from the cupboard to the JBR, without major injury. In all seriousness, seeing the good and bad things regarding orchestra behind the scenes means that I am well placed to highlight suggestions to the President, VP and Treasurer before the start of next year. We will then be able to hit the ground running.

We have a lot of very talented musicians, and the aim is to allow the orchestra to be a vehicle for us to enjoy ourselves and flourish musically. I can promise a selection of exciting repertoire that allows us to showcase our abilities.

Perhaps more importantly, I have seen how important the orchestra is for people. This year the orchestra has been incredibly social, with record levels of weekly pub turnout. It would be my priority to continue and improve upon this. I would be looking to have more orchestra socials, especially in term 1 when everyone is (slightly) less busy.

Finally, since I took up this role, biscuit appreciation rates have been sky-high. I can promise more of the same excellent choices next year!

Thanks for considering me, I’m excited to see what we can do next year!
