Hi! I’m Jen, a first-year Geography with Social Data Science student. After a fulfilling year with Museums Society, I hope to give back by running to be your Marketing Officer/Secretary for 2023/24!

I’m meticulous, reliable and manage my time well. As your Marketing Officer and Secretary, my priorities will be to get the basics done, and done well. Namely:

  1. Design and publish posts on Museum Society’s social media pages promptly, with the appropriate details, to inform and excite followers about regular society events. Not just members — I hope to reach out to a wider audience to grow the society as well!
  2. Create a clear and engaging newsletter that disseminates information on the society to keep members updated through email.
  3. Support the committee with administrative tasks (and in general, be a good team player!).

I am confident that I have the skills and aptitude to do well on the Museums Society committee. Having been in the Communications Committee of my college’s Student Council and a leader in its House Directorate and environmental movement, it’s safe to say I have had previous experience with design and engagement, and management skills. I hope to put all of this to good use in my time with Museums Society, so I would love to be given the privilege to serve in next year’s committee!

Hi!

I'm a second year anthropology student interested in how museums interact, represent, and engage with the world, the societies they're in, and the cultures they represent. I'm originally from Puerto Rico, a small island in the Caribbean that has always been subject of colonialism. It is often misrepresented and taken advantage of by the U.S., and historically by Spain. Having lived first hand how representation affects perception, I want to work with communities to minimise these experiences. I want to get involved in this field any way I can. This summer, I hope to work at large museums in the U.S. as an intern and continue a career in museums and heritage studies.

One of my favourite things about London is the incredible amount of museums in the city. I want to discover them all, and do this alongside people who are as passionate about museums as I am.

As secretary of Museum Soc, I want to actively work with the committee members to make sure that how UCL as an institution, as well as UCL students, engage with museums is respectful, ethical, and fun. I want to create an environment that is welcoming and interesting for everyone who wants to learn more and experience museums! I will also work to find more interesting, maybe even a little obscure museums and exhibitions for the society to visit!

Thanks for reading and I hope I can count on your vote!!
