Farhan Ashiq

Hi everyone, it's Farhan, your first year student representative for UCL Malayali Society. As you may know, I am a familiar face across campus, networking with people of all backgrounds and making people feel welcome. I like to think of myself as a friendly and responsible person who can foster community spirit and a sense of belonging for us Malayalis, alongside introducing our culture to curious onlookers. These are only some of the reason I want to apply to represent your interests and create fantastic events we can all enjoy.

Regarding the skills I can bring, I can manage people in a calm, confident manner given that my experience as an administrator in a hospital setting has required me to deal with patients by phone and in-person under strict time constraints. Moreover, I have liaised with people of all levels to cooperate and get on with the task at hand, and I hope that my colleagues feel the same is true with the society.

I admit a lot of the work required to run UCL Malayali Society will be on the job training. There will be a lot to learn about leadership and event management, especially Onam and other big events. However, I will be able to overcome these hurdles as I am a quick learner, having acquired skills quickly in my NHS and Oxfam jobs.

All in all, I encourage you guys to choose me as your vice President if you want to have an absolutely "adipoli" time.

Steve Mathew

Hey everyone!

I'm excited to run for VP. As a proud Malayali myself, I know how important it is to preserve and promote our awesome culture and traditions. If you vote for me, here are some of the things I promise to do:

  1. Let's show off our culture! I'm all about organizing fun events that highlight the best of our music, dance, art, and food. I plan on making our flagship event, the boat party bigger and better if it can get better. Let's get everyone excited about being Malayali!
  2. We're all family! I want to create a chill, welcoming vibe for all our members, whether you're a 'thani malayali' or a total newbie.
  3. Connections are key! I'm keen to network with other Malayali socs and share ideas, so we can all grow and learn together!!!
  4. Let's keep improving! I'm always looking for feedback from you guys so we can make our events and activities even better. We want to have a real impact on people's lives!

I hope you'll vote for me to be your Vice President. Let's make Malayali society even more amazing than it already is!

Cheers,

Steve

Yazhini Poongundran

I admire what UCL Malayali Society does, create a sense of community among students and act as their ‘home away from home’.

My involvement with the society began during my first year of university, in which I have been an active participant in many events and served as a First Year Rep until date. During this tenure, I was delighted to be involved with successfully organising a society dinner in a timely manner that increased membership and encouraged participation from students across campus. My organisational skills were further tested as a core committee member of ‘Sutton Tamil Sangamam’ alongside my parents; I helped to coordinate and lead our annual 250+ capacity Pongal program by meeting with vendors for venue selection, being the lead host and managing budgets efficiently along with maintaining records ensuring smooth functioning — tasks which gave me a great sense of responsibility and required considerable planning and problem-solving abilities.

Samyukta Ajay

I am standing for Vice President as I have been very active as a member of Malayali society since the start of this year, especially having been one of the first year reps, and would like to contribute to the future success of the society and its events. I have been able to form a greater connection with my culture through my participation in this society, which I would like to continue to strengthen. I am determined to further demonstrate my commitment by assuming a position of greater responsibility and leadership, and am confident that I can fulfil the role of Vice President in particular with my strong organisation, communication, and cooperation skills.
