Candidates

Micah Gerstner
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I have spent 2 years as the RPG Officer for UCL Sci-Fi and Fantasy society, organising monthly events and contributing to large group events such as their two balls. Furthermore, I spent the last year as the Trans Network Secretary, organising internal documents, working with the Union to better define what liberation networks are, and working on a Trans Network newsletter. I have also attended Union meetings with multiple diversity and inclusion groups when the Trans Officer was unable to attend, so I have a good understanding of how these meetings function.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  1. Campaign UCL to rejoin Stonewall or establish an alternative scheme to protect students and staff.
  2. Increase solidarity between queer students in London with inter-uni events and socials
  3. Increase student-staff solidarity by contacting the UCL queer staff organisations.
  4. Host a queer ball and more in-person events, including reading groups and breakfasts.
  5. Start a newsletter and website to better share information about LGBTQ+ Network events.
  6. Provide support to student queer groups at UCL, especially in regard to student welfare.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

With my existing background of working with queer students, especially with trans students as the Trans Network Secretary. I want to cultivate an LGBTQ+ community of mutual respect and support which will help queer students finish their degrees, even if their environment feels unsafe because of homophobia, transphobia, or any kind of queerphobia. As LGBQ Officer, I hope to work with queer students of all walks to make sure they feel like they have a strong community and feel safe attending university.
