Antony Chew

Hi, I’m Antony, currently a third year UG medical student. This year, I really went for it in terms of extra-curricular clubs. Alongside Japan society, I am part of music society, Jiu Jitsu society and even Kendo society. I’ve always been a musical person, classically trained in four instruments; I’m also fond of martial arts and fitness. And of course I’ve enjoyed Japan society’s amazing events.

This year, I’ve been lucky to meet so many great people at Japan society who I really vibe with. Our community has an interesting mix of people spanning undergrad to postgrad, Japanese speakers to interested learners or those who want to learn about Japanese people and culture. You can make friends in any event, but socials are the best place!

Part of the reason I’m running for Social officer is my desire to serve and give back to the society. As part of the committee, I will give fresh, new passionate ideas, and collate feedback to make improvements that push the limits of Japan society to its potential. I’m a meticulous planner, and desire to run events that facilitate in making lasting memories at our events. As a non-Japanese speaker, I wish to provide a different perspective to events, and ensure that socials appeal to all members.

I also have a few ideas to propose: a new social mentoring system that places members into families with “mums” and “dads”, more collaborative socials, longer stacked events and more polling to find out about what socials members would like to see.
