Rudi Rance

I want to bring to life considered, accomplished filmmaking concerning real issues and real people. Currently, in the process of creating my documentary, by being chosen for the term 2 documentary bid, and working closely with Nathalie the current producer, I have become intimately acquainted with what is required by the members of the crew, from director to runner. As a producer, I wish to transfer my passion for the form into the projects of others, utilising my knowledge to execute the creation of projects that are artistically and intellectually fulfilling. My passion for documentary stems from my fascination with people, the fluidity and spontaneity of the form is quite unlike any other. One must surrender their will to the truth of the story one wishes to tell, rather than force any agenda upon one's art. The role of the producer is essential in attempting to ‘steer the ship’ for the film being made, making sure that everyone is comfortable in their role, and ready to adapt to any unseen circumstances, which are an innate part of the terrain in such a form. My experience as a journalist, director, and crew member has taught me valuable lessons in teamwork and leadership, when to take control and when to relinquish it. I hope that the final product of my film stands as evidence of the passion and vitality I approach the documentary format with and I wish to continue to pursue and develop such a passion as a producer.

Abbie Keys

I would love the position of documentary producer as I am incredibly passionate about documentary film and filmmaking in general. I am currently studying a part time Masters in Ethnographic and Documentary Filmmaking which I believe will be a great asset to this role as it has allowed me to build up a vast knowledge of documentary production. In addition to this I have also participated in various events run by film society including the Term 1 documentary, FemFilm, Term 2 drama film, the 48 hour film challenge and I am also on the FOMI committee. I have really valued each of these experiences for helping me to learn new skills and this is something I would like to promote further through the position of documentary producer.

I strongly believe that creating documentaries is one of the best ways to learn the art of filmmaking if you are just starting out. As someone from a working class background I never had access to equipment or resources in order to make fancy productions. Instead I made no-budget documentaries as a means to explore filmmaking in a more accessible way. I would like to promote documentary film, especially to novices, as a way in which anyone can get involved with filmmaking simply by picking up a phone and encouraging people to explore the world around them through film.

Overall, I am really invested in promoting documentary filmmaking to a wider audience here at UCL and encouraging future filmmakers to get more involved with the production process.
