The Cheese Grater has consumed my university life these past 6 months, and I have truly embraced it like a firstborn child. Since becoming supreme editor-in-chief earlier this year, the magazine has skyrocketed in popularity. As any UCL student will know, its name is plastered on the walls of every hallway and the panes of every window, as the face of objective truth stares down at our campus, watching; waiting. My face and name are synonymous with supreme power and ultimate justice, however, that is all soon to change. I fear that as power corrupts, my head will turn on all I stood for in the past. Since my hostile takeover of the newspaper, the light-hearted satire that sprinkled the pages has now been replaced with a thick coat of filth and lies. Yes, we have gained a monumental cult following among students London-wide, and my power and influence within UCL are unmatched. Still, alas, this ruthless media mogul that I have transformed into was far from my original intentions when entering this cutthroat industry. I arise each morning and read the papers, and I think to myself: "where is the whimsy?"

It is clear to me now that in order to save our paper, and perhaps journalism itself, from this bottomless chasm of dirt and scum that we have found ourselves falling down at an ever-increasing pace, I need to use my immense clout and prestige in the position of Satire and Humour Editor to restore the light!

Izzie Moull

Cheesegrater has given me a place to express and share my views in a way I didn't really know existed before I started at UCL (even if those views are just how much I carnally desire the blue people from Avatar). From the beginning I have been encouraged to write what I want, in the way that I want to, with support and encouragement given from both Red and the society as a whole. I would be honoured to have the opportunity to act as editor for satire and humour, and continue in supporting and encouraging the section in its work.

I very much enjoy Cheesegrater for the collaborative space it is, and the opportunities it gives to each member to write in their own style about the things they want to write about. As editor, I would endeavour to maintain this atmosphere and to grow it. I would edit pieces with an aim at maintaining the voice of the author and the tone of the piece.

Having time and space to discuss our ideas is part of what makes Cheesegrater so fantastic and results in some of, what I think is, our best work. As editor I would seek to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the meetings as much (or as little) as they want.

The satire section at Cheesegrater is fantastic and produces some truly incredible pieces. I would delight to have the chance to help and support others to produce their best.

Thank you kindly for your consideration.
