As both a Catholic and a medic, I am passionate about student welfare especially regarding mental health. Personally, I received support from our university chaplain which really helped me to cope with the stress of Y2. However, I only discovered her support in 2nd year so I think something I’d definitely like to do would also be to raise awareness and increase accessibility to all the different resources and support systems available to Catholic and non-Catholic students both within UCL and the society. I would consider myself an approachable person who enjoys connecting with new people so I would be happy to share my own faith journey with newcomers and help to initiate them into CathSoc. Having participated in the soup run last year, I witnessed first hand the positive impact of volunteering to the homeless. Besides distributing food, I felt we made a real impact by conversing with them. For people who were in what seemed like a hopeless situation, the meaning albeit brief friendship we provided was a reminder that there were people to support them, which hopefully reinvigorated their spirit to fight through another day. Needless to say, it has left a profound impact on me and has encouraged me to run for this position this year so I can continue to participate and hopefully lead this amazing initiative.
