Angelina Lim

Hey! I'm Angelina, a first-year International Social and Political Studies student. Through Asiatic Affairs, I've met a great community of people who are interested in the region! I'm running for Events Officer because I've truly enjoyed the different events over the past year. I see Asiatic Affairs as a great platform to learn from interesting and knowledgable individuals and academics!

If I am elected, I hope to:

1. Collaborate with other related societies to organise larger-scale events and host guest speakers

2. Promote an Asiatic Affairs community through events such as pub socials & movie screenings

3. Seek input from members on the events that they want to see, and the topics they want to discuss at weekly meetings!

Ioana Turcan

My name is Ioana Turcan and I am a third year ESPS Dual Degree student. During the first two years of my university studies at Sciences Po Paris, I was very vibrant within my community and demonstrated my interest in International Relations and Asia throughout my academic projects and extracurricular events.

I co-founded an East Asia Society on campus to help promote the discovery of East Asia through the organisation of events like conferences on “China’s Belt and Road Initiative”or Studio Ghibli movie nights and lively cooking sessions. I was also president of my campus’ MUN society and dealt with many projects, my most notable being the organisation of Sciences Po’s first ever inter-campus MUN, an event that brought together 300+ students. At UCL I am head of events for the International Relations society and have overseen the organisation of multiple events in collaboration with societies from other universities. My interest in Asiatic affairs has still been very present and led me to organise a tour of the Singaporean High Commission!

Being a passionate Sinophile and showing a strong interest in Asia's culture, history and politics, I would be thrilled to be events officer for the Asiatic Affairs Society and continue to learn more about Asia by organising thought-provoking and exciting events and dialoguing with society members! My curiosity, communication and event management skills will help me find and liaise with the best speakers and effectively lead a team!
