Laura Bianca Ionescu

My name is Laura, a first-year Politics and IR student running for UCLUNA's Outreach Officer.

The two values I would bring into the role would be transparency and reactionary behaviour. Transparency means that I value the importance of honesty and success within the society: having the ability to understand everyone’s wishes and aspirations for the association and consequently acting towards catering to each of your needs. Reactionary behaviour comes as a result of things gone wrong; which is inevitable in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment, ardently striving towards the organisation of an academic year filled with opportunities for. I am well accustomed to the need to always adapt, complete certain unforeseeable tasks at the last minute, at uncomfortable times, so that the goal is well achieved.

If elected, I look forward to eagerly organizing interactive events such as speaker and training sessions as well as visits and tours to important  venues (including NGOs and political institutions) that will strive to cater to all interest groups within UCLUNA. I would also look to develop networking within the society itself as well as together with other societies (such as Student Action for Refugees, Diplomacy and International Relations society) in order to best position students at an advantage ahead of their professional careers.

Thank you for your trust!

Madelyn Small

Hi everyone,

I’m Maddie Small and I’m currently a first year!!

Over the past 6 months I've been an active member as Volunteering Officer of UCLUNA and have had lots of fun at the weekly training sessions. I would love to continue to be part of the team next year as Outreach Director!

I feel that this position is a great advancement from Volunteering Officer as it involves a lot of similar responsibilities, such as training and recruiting volunteers, which makes me well-prepared to handle the role.

I’m also excited about the additional responsibilities this role entails. There are numerous societies at UCL that discuss similar themes to UCLUNA (Amnesty International, Diplomacy Society, UNICEF, etc.). If nominated, I will make sure to work with these societies in order to coordinate events, increasing the opportunities and knowledge of UCLUNA members.

Here are some coordinated event ideas:

  • Guest speakers (diplomats, UN ambassadors)
  • Academic lectures on specific global issues
  • UN/embassy tours (like done in 19/20 year)
  • Career discussion/networking
  • Volunteer projects
  • Debate sessions
  • and more!

Another idea I would like to pursue as Outreach Director is events with other MUN societies across London; LSE, King’s (networking!). Possibly even combined training sessions in order to prepare for conferences.

Feel free to contact me with any questions and hope to see you all at the next training session :)

Charlotte Yung

Hi everyone, I’m Charlotte, a third year EISPS student! You haven’t seen me around because I’m currently on my year abroad but those of you who volunteered with us last year know me as I was the volunteering officer of the society! I really liked taking care of this aspect of UCLUNA and I would love to continue contributing to the growth of the outreach programme. I believe I’m the ideal candidate for this role as I’m already familiar with communicating with the student’s union, UCL departments and students. Being a part of the volunteering team helped me improve my teamwork skills, which will be extremely useful as the Outreach Director. I discovered MUN at university and quickly became passionate about it and more broadly the United Nations. As I’m finishing my degree, I want to share this interest with members of the society, especially by continuing to run the volunteering programme and making it grow. Moreover, during my first year at UCL, I felt like the society lacked a sense of community and I want to foster this through (hopefully in-person) fun social events that everyone can enjoy. Count on me for being at every single one of them ;) I look forward to being a friendly face to everyone in the society! Feel free to contact me if you want any more information!
