As part of the Medical School medics4medics committee for the last two years, I have learnt the variety of ways students can receive support for any problems they have and feel that I could direct the members of the tennis club towards these. I am a good listener and can be a friendly face who can support others as much as possible. Receiving advice and opening up about our worries can really help to rationalise, deal with and alleviate stress so that we can work towards a healthy balance between self-care and our studies. I’d love to involve as many members as possible in conversations about mental health, as it could make it easier for everyone to reflect more on their thoughts and consider methods of self-care. Tennis helps me with my own wellbeing, not just physically but also mentally. The exercise helps me stay fit but the social aspect of the sport also gives me the chance to meet new people, socialise and relax. As Welfare Officer, I would like to promote events such as group yoga sessions, chilled movie nights, picnics and more meals out so that members can meet with everyone, regardless of tennis ability or which team you are in. I would also suggest creating a ‘buddy’ system within the club so that new members have the chance to integrate themselves more and can meet new people – this might help new students who are worried about starting university and settling in.

Hello! I have been a member of the LUSL team this year and I have loved the experience, as well as of the club in general. I would very much like to contribute so that everyone enjoys it as much as I have. I am eager to commit to this role and also help out in any management, organising or problems that the club and the members may have.
