Candidates

Milla Nasevski

Hey everyone! My name is Milla Nasevski and I am a first year Politics student.

I am running for LUSL captain because tennis is LITERALLY my only personality trait. Growing up playing tennis, I've experienced both highs and lows; from playing with Emma Raducanu (more like destroyed), to a lesson with Boris Becker to being undefeated in LUSL matches (see, I don't just go to the socials).

All jokes aside, I've thoroughly enjoyed the welcoming and affable environment created by LUSL, and as one of the highlighting moments of my university experience, this is something I would like to relay onto the following years of UCL Tennis. Currently playing for LUSL has enabled me to view firsthand of what it means to represent a community of players - whether that be keeping up the team spirit on rainy match days or running weekly trainings which brings everyone together.

While I aim to continue many aspects of the social events at tennis, such as team dinners and nights out (the best bits), I am also highly committed to increasing LUSL tennis prestige. Through practice matches, drills and games, I intend to create a stimulating, yet competitive environment. By connecting with the UCL Tennis alumni, I would like to introduce tennis workshops with professionals to help our players thrive.

After a great year led by Sofia and Jacopo, I am dedicated to continuing the great energy within both LUSL and the tennis society as a whole.

Jacopo Astolfi

Hi everyone!

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Jacopo, and I am a second year Natural Sciences student. I am also current LUSL captain.

I would like to run again for captain for a number of reasons:

1) The most obvious: I have already done the job. I know what is required and the "weekly routine" of being LUSL captains. By being elected once more I can help my co-captain (and other committee members) in a smooth day to day running of society.

2) I care about the team: going to Sunday trainings this year is always a highlight of my week. Seeing all members of the team, getting to know them better and playing tennis with them is always great fun. I want to be captain again because of the people who make the team.

3) I have loved creating a welcoming atmosphere in the team. I feel like everyone enjoyed hitting on Sundays, and enjoyed coming to socials every Wednesday. Next year, I want to focus on this even more. Not only do I want us to do well in matches and have good trainings, I like for my team to enjoy coming to trainings so next year I will again focus most of my time on team spirit, work with my co-captain to achieve our goals.

I have proved that I can be a good captain. I can work well in a pair, but also in a larger group of people, helping in the successful organising of trials, trainings and matches. I want to keep up with this good work next year, and build upon the foundations that I have laid down this year.

Calix Tan

My name is Calix Tan and I am a first year Applied Medical Sciences student. I have been extremely privileged to be part of the wonderful LUSL team to play a sport I love. The current captains, Sofia and Jacopo, have done an amazing job to give LUSL it’s character as a fun and welcoming team which has led me, and I’m sure many others as well, to truly enjoy every moment of it, from training sessions to meeting new friends. In the following year, I would love to not only preserve, but to build upon what our captains have achieved to make LUSL the team that it is today. I wish for the new and current members of LUSL to be able to experience what I have, and create an environment where everybody can play tennis competitively while still having fun with each other. I am confident that my constant involvement in LUSL this year and experiences with previous tennis teams will make me an ideal LUSL captain next year.

Javier Mazo González-Choren

Hello! I have been attending the club this year and I have completely loved it. I would like to contribute more, and the best that I can, to the team by helping to manage the sessions and matches so that everyone can enjoy as much the experience as I have done over these two terms. It would be a pleasure to commit to this role and put my grain of sand onto this amazing team.
